In the age of women empowerment where females do not need the society to define them and their purpose in life, women of today’s generation are now more outspoken and inquisitive. They speak their mind and are not afraid to express their truest and sincerest opinions on subject matters. Here, we listed six women who are excellent examples and why every millennial should aspire to be just like them.
1. Iza Calzado
Iza chooses to forego her self-doubt and uncertainty and promises to embrace her imperfect body. And to encourage more other women, she co-founded a self-love campaign titled, “The Body Love Revolution” in partnership with She Talks Asia that aims to inspire women to celebrate the skin we’re in and create a healthy relationship with our bodies.
2. Mari Jasmine
A woman of style, Mari Jasmine inspires us on the daily with her curated posts on social media. But another thing that we admire about this fashionista is how she told the world that she should not be defined by her past relationships. Last June, she celebrated Pride month with her partner Samantha Lee, and she showed us the value of owning our truths, standing up against people's criticisms, and celebrating all kinds of love.
What an inspiring #pride month we’ve just wrapped up! 25,000 people strong this year in Manila, celebrating as one. Pride is about celebrating love, equality, and owning your truth. So here’s mine: in the little time I’ve spent on this earth, I’ve had the privilege of being in love with both men and women. Filipinos are known to be some of the most loving people on earth. As a foreigner arriving in Manila over 5 years ago, I can attest to this - I’ve been accepted and treated with love and compassion from day one. I’ve been welcomed to family dinners, been nurtured, taken care of and was never made to feel like an outsider. My dream is for the same kind of love, compassion, and understanding to be shown to the LGBTQIA+ community. We still have a long way to go to reach acceptance and equality, especially here in the Philippines. My dream is to live in a world where I feel safe walking down the street holding my girlfriend’s hand. A world where I have the same fundamental human rights that I would be entitled to if I were in a straight, heteronormative relationship. To those who don’t have any friends or family in the LGBTQIA+ community, I implore you to reach out and start learning. We are often only afraid of the things we don’t know or understand. To reach equality, we need our allies to be as passionate and vocal about our rights as we are. To the LGBTQIA+ community and to those who are still questioning/figuring out who you are - you are wonderful, worthy and loved. Don’t let any person or any institution let you think otherwise. I stand by you and I will fight with you forever! ??????
3. Andi Eigenmann
Letting go of all the expensive items she owns and leaving the luxurious habits she once enjoyed, Andi decided to live a simpler life in her new home in Baler. Aside from making this decision that stays true to where her heart lies, we also look up to Andi for advocating body positivity. She proves that we are at our most beautiful when we're not restricted by the numbers on the weighing scale and we're living our life according to our real passions.
4. Jasmine Curtis Smith
An active youth ambassador of the World Vision Philippines since 2014, Jasmine is more than just her angelic face as she advocates a cause to help children in need all over the country. Jasmine celebrated Christmas with the children of the World Vision Philipines as a form of giving back for the blessings that contiue to come her way. The young actress proves to us that having a compassionate heart is still one of the best qualities we can possess as humans.
5. Angelica Panganiban
Inquisitive and straightforward, Angelica is a woman with a no-holds-barred personality which sets her apart compared from other showbiz personalities. She also chooses not to dwell on negativity after facing so many heartbreaks, but rather, she knows how to stand up on her own and inspire other women that there’s more to life than drowning in feels. Millennials, take notes!
6. Kim Jones
Kim is a living proof that our dreams are always worth chasing no matter where we are in our lives. She makes us believe that the measure of a real woman comes from staying true to her passions, and her essence isn't to become someone's wife or mother. Kim is a woman of her own, and her impeccable style, creative mind, and strong-willed character are qualities we can only hope to exude as we go through our young adult life.
Being in the public eye while showing their most authentic selves seem so natural to these ladies. Hopefully, we can all take inspiration from them and forge a path of our own that allows us to celebrate life, pursue our dreams, and be the women we are always meant to be.
