Back-to-back NBA Finals Champion and MVP Kevin Durant is now in the Philippines for the first time to launch his latest shoe with international sports lifestyle brand Nike. What better way to promote his KD-11 than through an All-Star Challenge with some of the country's top collegiate ballers? Against thousands of fans at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City last Sunday, he did so by leading his Hyper Court Team against the likes of UAAP players Juan Gomez de Liaño, Thirdy Ravena, CJ Perez, and Isaac Go.
KD summarized his experience on his first time in Manila, "It’s been amazing, the people’s love for the game. You can feel the energy. I can’t wait to meet more Filipino basketball fans."
On his first day, he personally spent time with some fans, who braved the elements despite the scorching heat and sudden rains. He cheesily shared his journey anchored with the brand he endorsed, "It’s been like a movie. It’s been a rollercoaster, the emotions that go through this schedule and this journey. I’ve learned so much about the game of basketball that I wanna apply to my personal life. Through the experiences I’ve had with Nike over my career, I’m just grateful that I get to do so much through the game of basketball which has changed my life forever."
KD has had a signature shoe with Nike ever since he was a rookie—not something that a lot of players can boast of. This humble giant will still be in town for a few more days and we're pretty sure not only Warriors and OKC fans are stoked by his presence on our soil!
