Half the year has come and gone already. For some, it’s an ending, with students graduating and bidding farewell to their old lives as they start preparing for the next step in life. For others, it’s just another beginning as the next semester of school comes in. Either way, life goes on for everyone, at school, at work, at home or everywhere in between.
If you feel like you have a lot on your plate and need to take a break, why not go out and experience something new? These events are here to heat things up this July whenever you need a breath of fresh air:
1. Music at the Museum
If you think taking a look at relics of the past isn’t your cup of tea, the Ayala Museum has another part of culture to entice you in: Music. All throughout the year, the Ayala Museum will be holding concerts on its ground floor from 6:30-8:30 PM, showcasing different musicians, singers and genres of our country’s music. Just this month, they have Kwentong Kanluran devoted to folk music master Joey Ayala (July 5), Guitar Nights featuring renowned guitarist Aaron Aguila and student guitar ensembles (July 12), the Philippine Madrigal Singers (July 19) and Youth Stage for young music prodigies full of potential (July 26). All this for Php700 as the regular rate for each night, and 300 for students! Book here for Kwentong Kanluran, here for Guitar Nights, here for the Philippine Madrigal Singers and here for Youth Stage. So open your ears up to listen to the Music at the Museum!
2. Ang Huling El Bimbo: The Musical
If the tunes from the Eraserheads’ tragic ballad already started playing in your head just by reading that title, you’re in luck: that’s exactly what this musical is about! Based on the famous song, Ang Huling El Bimbo follows the story of a group of college friends during their first reunion in twenty years, marred as it is by unresolved issues of the past. With over twenty songs from the band featured in the soundtrack, the musical isn’t just a celebration of the Eraserheads, but nostalgic, bittersweet emotions those songs represented. The show starts staging on July 20 in the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila, all the way to August 18. You can buy your tickets here and get ready to hear the El Bimbo once more!
Hot off the heels of Pride Month comes another event championing inclusivity, though this time for another crowd: Tabletop Gamers. LacunaCon is a tabletop gaming event for women and the LGBT+ community. Taking place from 12nn-10pm on July 15 at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati, it’s a place where people can come together, unleash their imagination and learn more about how to do it. Several tabletop campaigns are headed up, with games like the famous Dungeons and Dragons to more obscure ones such as Fate Accelerated being included. If you’re less interested in playing, talks and workshops about various topics such as character creation are there for your education. There are even dice raffles and makeup trading to spice up the event! Though all the hosts are women and LGBT+, they don’t have to be the only ones there: boys and anyone else who wants to come are invited. If you want to take part, you can pre-register now or on the day itself for Php250, with a giveaway for the first 50 registrants! If you have any questions, follow just read this handy FAQ! So get ready to let your imagination run wild in LacunaCon!
