School days are back, and so is the pressure of getting good grades, nailing our extra-curricular activities, seeing people we rather don't, and facing yet another year of waking up too early. It sounds impossible to deal with if you think about it especially without the early knowledge of what’s in store for us in the fresh academic year. You may be thinking the worst-case scenarios that can happen and zero reasonable motivation to welcome those imminent surprises, and we wouldn’t blame you because we know exactly where you’re coming from.
That’s how school goes–it’ll throw you off-balance and the next thing you know, you’re wishing for it to be over already. Unfortunately, it isn’t something you can just snap out of, but there are ways to keep yourself going if you simply have the drive. Let these movies be your guide to look ahead and survive until the end!
1. Duff (2015)
It’s hard to tell whether a person is real or fake, but one thing’s for sure–the former will accept you and all your flaws for what they are, and that’s enough reason to keep them for a lifetime. Focus on the excitement of seeing these old best friends of yours because they can make your daily school struggles more bearable. Sure, fights are normal in a group like Bianca, Jess, and Casey's in this teen movie. But no matter what causes the conflicts–boys, labels, and such–real friends never let it end with a “friendship over” mark.
2. Perks Of Being A Wallflower (2012)
Come out of your shell and live in the moment far from your comfort zone. If you are so caught up by the nightmare of the past and comfort of the same old way like Charlie from this coming-of-age film adaptation, you won’t get to see the greatness beyond the mundane. Perhaps, join organizations, make new friends, take more classes, go to that party, or even fall in love. It's not easy to break your boundaries, but don't forget to make that first step and don't let the chances pass you by.
3. Wild Child (2008)
For those who just moved in to a new school, learn to reach out. Open yourselves up and give your new environment a chance no matter how much you miss the previous one. Stay real, but still exert extra effort to adjust to your surroundings. It won’t be long until you get the hang of it and love it like Poppy in this classic teen comedy. It’ll never be the same as it’ll ever be, but it can’t be that bad, right?
4. Mean Girls (2004)
If you ever find yourself in a new circle, don't ever lose yourself into something you're not. Don’t get too worked up in trying to fit in with others and convincing yourself that you’re on the same page as them when truly, you’re not. Most of the time, it’s healthier to be alone than to hang out with the wrong people and end up destroying your identity. Learn from Cady in this all-time favorite teen drama and know that peer pressure and bullying can’t sit with us.
5. Twenty (2015)
Poor grades should not kill the motivation inside you. Yes, they are crucial in passing entrance exams. So if you failed your big test, you have no choice but to begin again and try to do better the next time. This Korean movie, however, tells us that there’s so much more than numbers on a paper. Values such as perseverance still remain as one of the surest ways to make your dreams happen. Even if nobody’s left believeing in you, as long as you put your heart and focus on the end result that you want, then chances are you'll power through it.
6. High School Musical (2006)
Get your head in the impossible. Let what your heart truly desires come through even if it’s what people least expect from you. There’s no need to get the approval of others because you are the author of your own life and you deserve to run it. When it comes to the right decision for your life, the final say's on you. For a feel-good throwback, soar, fly, and break free just like Troy and Gabriella, and see if you're going to find what you’ve been looking for!
These school hacks from our favorite teen flicks won’t work overnight. But it won’t hurt to learn a thing or two, and face the coming year with a fresh sense of motivation and excitement!
