Being the tallest tower in Australasia, the Auckland Sky Tower does not only boast the best views of the city, it is also perfect for thrill seekers as you can walk around the pergola at 192 meters above the ground! For a bigger rush, you can opt for the SkyJump, where you literally jump off the tower, reaching speeds of up to 85 KPH! Definitely not for the fainthearted!
Visit the Waitomo Glowworm Caves
The Waitomo region is located just two and a half hours outside of Auckland, and is known for one of the most awe-inspiring sights that you can experience in a lifetime. You take a short boat ride through the Glowworm Grotto and what would seem like a starry sky, is actually thousands of glow worms illuminating the cave!
Go Wine Tasting at Waiheke Island
One of the coolest things about visiting Auckland is the fact that it is so close to nature. A quick 35-minute ferry ride will bring you to an island known for its vineyards, beaches, and olive groves. A weekend trip to Waiheke Island is definitely the perfect way to relax, but make sure you book your tasting tours ahead of time, especially in summer time.
Tour Around Middle Earth at the Hobbiton
Experience JRR Tolkien’s Middle-earth for yourself in Hobbiton, as you get to tour around the movie set of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy. Just a bus ride away from Auckland, you can spend the day in The Shire, feeling like you’re just a part of the cast!
Surf at Piha Beach
Piha Beach is just fifty minutes away from the city, and is famous for its scenic black sand beach, and the formations around it that are remnants of a volcanic eruption. The Lion Rock will definitely catch your attention as it divides the North and the South Piha beaches. Piha Beach is also quite a popular surf spot during the summer! Best time to head over to the beach is early in the morning to avoid the crowd!

Never seen a live rugby game before? Well, you definitely should not miss one when you’re in Auckland. After all, rugby is one of the most popular sports in New Zealand! The best place to catch a game would definitely be at Eden Park, which is also the country’s national stadium. No games? The stadium is also open for tours!
Experience Nature at Kitekite Falls
Kitekite Falls, at 40 meters high, and is known for its multi-tiered drop into a lake like pool. And it only requires an easy 45-minute hike and a good pair of boots to reach this spectacular spot! Located just outside the city in the Waitakere Ranges, this region is known for its beaches as well as its lush forests.
Immerse Yourself in Ponsonby
Join in the everyday life of the locals at Ponsonby, a commercial complex just ten minutes from the city where you can find a wide selection boutique stores, shops, and some bars and cafes. This whole place can cover you for the whole day! You can enjoy coffee in the morning, have a good stroll around the shops in the afternoon, and cap the day off over dinner and drinks!
