Also known as the “Oscars of Fashion,” the Met Gala is one of the grandest, most anticipated events in the world of fashion. Some would even call it the Super Bowl of Style.
This annual event began in 1946, when the Metropolitan Museum of Art started a fundraising gala for the benefit of the Costume Institute. Today, the black tie party just gets better each year, gathering all the most important people in the industry—from VIPs, to designers, to Hollywood celebrities—for an evening of elegance, opulence, and over-the-top looks that will make the fashion-obsessed swoon.
This year’s party was themed "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, and guests were not afraid to go all out with their evening looks. One Met Gala regular, however, left fashion enthusiasts a bit underwhelmed.
Kendall Jenner showed up at the red carpet scene in an off-white jumpsuit, opting for a simpler, say angelic look. She donned couture pants designed by Louis Vuitton menswear artistic director and Off-White founderVirgil Abloh. To top off her look, she accessorized with Off White x Jimmy Choo heels and Tiffany & Co diamonds.
If you look closely, you will notice that her pants also featured interesting details—they had their own trains!
Although quite underdressed for such an extravagant event, Kendall still looked stunning—but of course, Met Gala fans were not impressed. Twitter users were even quick to tag the celebrity as “the blandest person of the night”, describing her look as “basic.”
But not to worry, because Met Gala veterans Rihanna, Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, and Blake Lively saved the night and definitely did not disappoint. Keep scrolling to check out what some of the evening’s best dressed were wearing!
Which looks do you think nailed the theme?
