Being in the spotlight and sharing your life with the public never come easy. For a huge star such as Nadine Lustre, the constant barrage of opinions and, to an extent, gossip thrown her way can surely take its toll. During a roundtable interview at Folded & Hung's summer campaign shoot in which she and James Reid are starring, Nadine even confessed, "People tend to build an image of me in their heads. They would think, 'Dapat ganito siya... Dapat ganito yung itsura niya... Dapat ganito siya magsalita...' I used to listen to that before."
It's only human to be affected by all that harsh negativity to a certain degree. But knowing all too well how Nadine has blossomed into an unapologetically headstrong woman, we asked her how she has found a sense of empowerment amidst the tough world of show business, as well as in her personal trials. Nadine revealed, "As much as possible, I try to be true to how I feel and the things that I'm going through." Glancing at her boyfriend James who was sitting next to her, she added, "I used to try so hard to be strong even though deep down I'm falling apart. And it was actually him who taught me that it's okay to be sad sometimes, that you can't always be strong."
"I want [my fans] to know that my life is not all good, that I'm never perfect, and that they're not the only ones going through those dark days."
This disposition is also Nadine's way of touching the lives of her fans, especially the ones in the younger generation. She shared, "Showing vulnerability is important to me because this is my way of empowering the younger generation. I want them to know that my life is not all good, that I'm never perfect, and that they're not the only ones going through those dark days." Surely, knowing that you are not alone in your struggles, especially when it comes from someone you look up to, can give you that much-needed boost to keep you going, right?
Lesson learned: revealing your vulnerable side is never a sign of weakness, and Nadine just proved it to us. Empowerment always comes back to being authentic to who you are, especially during those times when you're feeling down. Take a moment to lower your defenses, because that's totally okay! Embrace your vulnerability, and that's where you'll find the courage to lift yourself up once again. Thanks for the life hack, Nadine!
