Karencitta may not be a household name yet, but she’s well on her way as she signs up with Viva Artists and has been touring the Philippines for shows. But her biggest breakthrough in the local entertainment scene since blowing up on social media is James Reid and Nadine Lustre's Revolution concert!
You may remember her for her viral video of "Cebuana," her instant hit that reached one million views on Facebook in its first 24 hours and currently has at least fourmillion views on YouTube. This L.A. based artist has really taken her roots to heart and used it to make something beautiful and unique to differentiate her from the kind of music everyone else is doing.
"Cebuana" was inspired by a conversation Karencitta once had with her friends back home. She was asking her guy friends what it was about Cebuanas that attracted them the most, and they revealed that not only are they beautiful, but, more importantly, they’re good cooks and overall wife material!
To add to that, Karencitta had this to say about Cebuanas, “Being a Cebuana to me means feeling beautiful inside and out and being free spirited. They’re very humorous, and they have their own culture in Cebu.”
Part of that culture is the recently concluded Sinulog, a big celebration to honor the Sto. Nino, which is held every third Sunday of January. Karencitta wanted to dedicate a song to honor the saint and her fellow Cebuanos in time for the holiday, and this song was the perfect embodiment of that.
