Whatever your idea of a "perfect" body is–be it looking lean and healthy or having bikini-ready abs–it always involves investing extra time and effort. You may have saved all those fitness inspo photos in your phone, gave yourself a timeline, and told the whole world about your commitment to achieving your #BodyGoals, but months, and maybe even years later, but you still haven't come close to your dream bod.
So, what's wrong? You're self-proclaimed goal-digger, but why do you keep finding yourself back to where you started? Here, we listed the major reasons why you haven't gotten as fit as you wish to be and how you can turn that around.
Ahh, this is one of the common diseases that a lot of us young people suffer from. Some symptoms of procrastination syndrome are statements like, "I will start exercising tomorrow," "I will reduce my intake of processed food next week," "I will start dieting after the holidays,"' and the list goes on and on. "I will, I will, I will, tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow," and it's funny how tomorrow never comes.
Tip: Instead of resolving to begin tomorrow, why not start now? Start today because as they say, "Today is the 'tomorrow' you were talking about yesterday."
Young people are energetic, but it's ironic how they get really lazy at times. C'mon, what are you using your energy for? This is especially true when it comes to going to the gym. We can spend our day binge-watching shows, going out with our friends, scorlling through our phones, and doing every other thing. But when it's time to exercise, we all go "Oh, I'm tired. I had a busy day." Sure.
Tip: If you'd rather stay in bed than do anything else, why not work out while you are in bed? Simple core workouts will do especially if you're aiming to get those toned abs for your next trip to the beach.
3. Lack of Discipline
Let's be realistic, most of us find it difficult to control our behavior or even obey rules. But unfortunately, the key to getting that dream body of youes is through discipline. It takes discipline to stick to your diet and exercise plan. The tendency to start today and stop a few days later is very high, but only a disciplined person can push through despite the inconveniences and temptations.
Tip: If you find it hard to discipline yourself, try getting a fitness buddy so he or she can help you stay in track. Having someone to go to the gym with and cheering you to get through those last 10 push-ups can make this whole thing fun and motivating!
4. Lack of support or encouragement
Sometimes, it only takes an inkling of doubt coming from your loved ones to spoil your motivation and commitment. Perhaps, your mom told you that you can never shed those pounds or your friend hated you just because you're choosing a gym session over Friday night drinks with them.
Tip: Shut all the negativity out, and focus on your own goals. Make sure you're surrounded with supportive people who understand you and push you to be the best version of yourself even if it means sacrificing your time with them.
5. Finding comfort in your current body
Maybe the real reason why you're not achieving that Victoria's Secret Angel body is because you actually don't mind not having a tiny waist and toned legs. You've grown comfortable with having an "okay" body, and you think that's it's not a big deal whether you get that supermodel figure or not.
Tip: It's ideal to love the skin you're in. But, if you feel like you want a change, make sure you stay committed. Once you've determined what you really want, go out of your comfort zone, aspire for more, and never settle for less!
By now you've probably identified the reason/s why you haven't been able to achieve all your fitness goals. Now, all that's left for you is to kick those bad habits and get that #BeastMode on!
