As of late, it’s been noticeable that more guys are starting to take interest in more sophisticated things. Some have taken a liking to finely distilled spirits, such as single malt whiskey or gin. Others take it little further by collecting well-crafted watches, from small watchmakers to bigger luxury brands. But for some, it’s in having well-tailored suits, or for those that have a more refined preference, bespoke suits.
Bespoke suits are the most personally crafted type of suits one can have made, as opposed to made-to-measure suits which, to be put simply, is just an already made suit that is altered to one’s measurements. Bespoke, on the other hand, is a suit that is made from scratch. This involves a consultation with the master tailor to determine what type of suit will be made, what occasion will this be for, what materials will be used, and other necessary details, which usually takes around two months, including several fitting sessions.
Once only popularized by James Bond and his films, the revival of bespoke suits was recently made famous by Colin Firth and Taron Egerton through their Kingsman movies, where you might have heard the line “the suit is a modern gentleman’s armor.” Whether you found that resounding or not, it definitely piqued many an interest into having a piece made as well. So, if you’d also be interested in looking into having a bespoke suit made, these are the places recommended you check out.
1. Tiño Suits and Barongs
Arguably the best and most authentic place where one can have bespoke suits made. True to its nature, the process and art of putting together a bespoke suit is really respected, especially that Tiño’s master tailor is the renowned Mr. Napoleon Arienza, one of the pioneers of bespoke tailoring in the Philippines. It’s no wonder why he has been given the responsibility of making some of James Bond’s suits, as well as suits behind countless prominent figures in the Philippines. It’s also worth mentioning, that all suits are handcrafted right here in the Philippines.
Herco Center, 114 Benavidez Street, Legazpi Village, Makati, Metro Manila
Truly a holistic experience for the modern gentleman. Not only do they offer well-crafted suits, but they are also a one stop shop for all your Kingsman-like needs (minus the spy-ware, of course). From bespoke suits, shirts, trousers, and shoes, to ready-to-wear items, as well as accessories, this is a place every guy with refined taste must check out. Easily accessible too, just right in the heart of the bustling Makati CBD.

3. Felipe and Sons Barberdashery
As its unique name describes it, Felipe and Sons is both a barbershop and a haberdashery. Originally recognized as one of the forerunners of the modern resurgence of the lost art of authentic barbershops in the Philippines, they have started coming into their own as offering more value to the urban gentleman through their well-made suits. In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, this place really is perfect for everyone who wants to look and feel good all in the convenience of one place.

4. JE. & Co. Haberdashery and Gentleman’s Shop
A not-so-secret spot to get suits beautifully made AND with prices friendly enough to come back for a second one done! Not to let the affordability put anything off, but what sets JE & Co. apart from other tailors is that for its relatively lower cost, clients still get the utmost quality in service and product! Everyone is in good hands here, especially from the genuine intentions of owner, Johann Ebarle, to help in bringing back the sophisticated prestige in the Metro Manila social scene.
49 Malingap, Diliman, Lungsod Quezon, 1101 Kalakhang Maynila
Special Mention: Spectre Manila
Although they don’t necessarily offer bespoke tailoring (strictly speaking), they’re made-to-measure suits are of exceptional quality, so much so that it may even look and feel better than some bespoke suits made elsewhere. No surprise, as their suits are by Tiño Suits and Barongs, and so long as that name is paired with tailoring, there’s no question about its quality. Easily one of the best gentleman’s hangouts too, where shoes and other men’s accessories are available, as well as an in-house barbershop. And for the music aficionados, on some Thursdays, they also have jazz nights as well!
