The elite roster of Star Magic includes every generation's brightest stars, and new talent Patty Mendoza is definitely one to watch out for. From her almond eyes and sun-kissed skin that give off a mysterious allure to her effervescent smile that exudes a charming personality, the 20-year-old beauty is the definition of a head-turner. Her resemblance to Isabelle Daza can surely cause a double take. But aside from her easy-on-the-eyes look, what makes Patty a real contender for stardom is her drive to move wherever her passions lead her.
She may have already taken a step to show business, but Patty is also well invested in her studies. Currently taking up Communication Arts in the University of Santo Tomas, she understands the importance of earning a diploma rather than dropping her academics altogether for a shot at fame. "Hindi guaranteed ang career sa showbiz," she says, proving that she has a good head on her shoulders. "With my degree, I have something to fall back on. May passion din naman ako sa ibang bagay."
One of those passions is the arts. Patty is also a talented illustrator as evident in the sketches she shares through her Instagram account. According to this upcoming star, she also wants to enroll at the Philippine School of Interior Design to further develop her artistic pursuits.
Another thing that's close to Patty's heart is travelling. Her social media feed is littered with gorgeous shots of her various trips abroad. She says that travelling makes her feel inspired. "I don't want to be stuck in one place," she claims. "As much as possible, gusto ko umaalis ako; gusto ko mag-explore." Whether it's in the Grand Palace in Bangkok or Osaka's famed Dotonbori area, Patty counts her experiences abroad as her wealth.
When it comes to her showbiz track, Patty reveals that she wants to focus more on the acting side of the world of entertainment. She notes how going into workshops has already helped her in different ways. "Aside from improving my skills, I feel like I've gotten to know myself better [through my acting workshops,]" she shares.
The entertainment industry is filled with artists who shine inside and out, but when asked which star she looks up to, Patty immediately expresses her adoration for actress Bea Alonzo. "Ang tagal-tagal na niya sa showbiz, and she's an independent woman. Another thing I love about her is halatang genuine siyang tao," she gushes.
As for her dream co-star? Patty chooses the prolific leading man John Lloyd Cruz in a heartbeat. Patty admires the star's ability to inject genuine emotion into his acting. "Parang may pinanggagalingan talaga yung feelings niya, yung emotions niya," she notes. "Hindi naman pwede iiyak lang. Dapat magbigay ka ng kakaibang feeling."
Aside from the craft of acting, there are many other things that you have to master to survive in this business. When asked about her personal mantra on her blossoming showbiz career, Patty recalls the advice given by her workshop mentor. "Lagi niyang sinasabi na indespensible ka," she shares. "Maraming magaganda at maraming magagaling. You really have to show them kung anong edge mo sa business."
For an up-and-comer, Patty's passion for the industry is already evident, and it'll only fuel the rocket that will take her to greater heights. And wherever she might find herself next, we're pretty sure she's only destined to shine.
