In Focus: At 19, Filipino-Dutch Edana Holds A Lot Of Promise In Her Enchanting Music

For Filipino-Dutch wonder kid Edana Keijdener, life seems to be all about the flow. After all, the 19-year-old singer, songwriter, and music producer has lived in several countries since birth. “I've always been hopping around,” she shares, “Basically, I was born here. But, within the first few months of living, I moved to Indonesia then to Vietnam then back to Indonesia. Then, Korea and Thailand.”

It was perhaps this multicultural exposure that gave her a broader perspective on the world, even taking International Justice as her university course because she felt passionate against human trafficking. Fate, it would seem, had other plans for her. “My mom really pushed me when she heard that I had something that I could actually make a living and a passion out of,” reveals Edana. “At the age of 16, I really loved this. I really think that I want to do this as a job and this is my dream, so I'm gonna go out and see what I can do with it.”

Edana started honing her musical skills, tapping into her emotions to derive inspiration for the songs she composes. “I'm such an emotional writer,” she relates, “I really look in what emotions I'm feeling the most of the time and use that in trying to portray that to someone else,” In a way, this process is also a means for Edana to clarify her thoughts, providing her a release from what she is currently going through. “As a writer and as an artist, there are times when I'm just so caught up with my emotions and you just really don't know how to explain it, so I just write it down.” says Edana, “If I'm feeling sad, you can bet the sound is gonna be so sad.” Yet, while most artists get bogged down by the idea of perfection in their compositions, Edana embraces the journey wholeheartedly. “For me, it's not having the perfect piece the first time you write it out,” she shares, “You just keep going until you have something you want to present.”

She then collaborated with fellow YouTube artists and uploaded some videos for fun. “I didn't think much of it,” she laughs, “Somehow, my now-manager (Chris Lopez a.k.a. Moophs) saw these videos and contacted me.” It was a dream come true for the young artist. “I've always aspired to be part of an international group,” she confesses, “So, when Moophs said that he is making this label and would I like to join because he thinks that I'll be a great part of the team, I was hundred percent on board.”

It was a new path that Edana forged fearlessly on, determined to follow her dream to fruition. “You should never, ever be able to regret not following your dream,” she says, “If you do not try to follow your passion, even if it's so small or just feels so out of reach, if you do not attempt, you're gonna die regretting.”

It was in the Tarsier Records family that Edana found a safe haven to explore her music further. “My sound is still an area which I'm still exploring. I want to be able to give a new, unique sound and perspective on how we can further our music,” she relates, “My generation is coming up with new sounds, new genres, new everything, and I want to be a part of that, I want to be a creative individual who opens doors for new things.”

Collaborations with a tight knit group have proven to be just the ticket the young star needed to propel her musical dreams further. “I am so blessed to meet these new people because they are helping me tune my area of expertise and they're not limiting me to one sound. They're allowing me to explore,” she shares, “Music, right now, is the biggest blessing that I have as a 19-year-old and I'm being able to grow with all these other artists. It's an experience beyond me.”
