Back in 2011, Gerald portrayed a role that was out of his usual Casanova character. At the end of his television series Budoy, the Pinoy Big Brother alum earned the respect of the Philippine entertainment industry for his performance as a man diagnosed with autism, and has since proved his credibility as an actor. This time, by supporting a cause dedicated to health and welfare of Autism Society Philippines, Gerald proves that his heart is as genuine as the Budoy we saw on TV. From the Gerald Anderson Foundation came the Angel Dog Program, a program that teaches dogs to behave in harmony with autistic children and for said children to depend or focus their attention on these therapy dogs whenever they feel stressed or afraid.
Meanwhile, true to her positive and merry characters, comedian Candy is a proud mom and advocate of early diagnosis and intervention of autism because of her everyday experiences with son Quentin. This October, she will be releasing a book entitled, Mommy Dear: Our Special Love. It is Candy’s personal journal on raising Quentin. Because of her contributions, she has become an inspiration for many mothers of autistic children. For Candy, acceptance and love is the most empowering support we can give.
In The Philippines, Gerald and Candy are ambassadors for Autism Society Philippines. On a global scale, The Autism Speaks Foundation is committed to the social welfare of those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as well as their families. ASD refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication.
