Situated on the 24th floor of the spanking new Seda Vertis North, Straight Up Bar is literally on top of Quezon City. The view from the rooftop terrace may be breathtaking, but the bar offerings are just as impressive. Straight Up definitely elevates the QC night scene known more for its beer tower and pulutan hangouts than for upscale bars or lounges.
As you enter, you’ll immediately see Straight Up’s wine chiller—which holds up to 120 bottles—boasting an assortment of premium white, red, rosé and sparkling wines. There’s a wide selection of beers, too, with the option to have them served Below Zero.
Straight Up’s bar counter extends almost the length of the space, offering not just the classics, but cocktails that come with a twist. “Any bar can serve the standard margaritas and martinis. We want to offer something that is our own, to give our guests something new to try,” explains Assistant F&B Manager Sammy Rosales. From the spirits and liqueurs lined up on the shelves, the bartenders can whip up imaginative concoctions such as the Seda Fuel, finger chili-infused vodka that comes with a little kick, and the Blue Freezer, a refreshing Curaçao and vodka drink that can also be ordered as a mocktail for those who don’t want to feel left out by the barkada. The Wake Up Call is classified as “traidor” in local drinking parlance, because the tall glass holds three kinds of rum, pineapple juice, and coffee, which gives you the sensation of being buzzed, along with a thrilling feeling of caffeine running through your nerves.
You can enjoy your drinks with Straight Up’s extensive pica-pica buffet, with all-you-can-eat croquetas, canapés, buffalo wings, antipasti, salads, among other offerings.
Music comes courtesy of the resident DJ who gauges the crowd mix as he spins either classics for the titas, house for millennials, or something more mellow for those holding meetings or networking while nursing a drink. The sounds extend from the air-conditioned indoor nooks with plush couches, all the way to the large al fresco area that seats about 100 and has its own bar.
As Straight Up is located at the top floor of the five-star Seda Vertis North, it definitely lords it over the other QC nightspots, with patrons ranging from well-heeled matrons on a night out “with the girls,” to young professionals who want to chill after work in a relaxed setting that feels miles away from the hubbub down below.
