"Ampon" is Filipino for "adopted child." Unfortunately, maybe because of miseducation and pop culture clichés, it has become a term that connotes something negative and, to an extent, a taboo. But at nursing home GRACES Home For The Elderly in Quezon City, Ate Procy—one of the houseparents providing assistance and TLC to the admitted elderly on site—proudly calls herself one. Ate Procy lost her biological dad when she was just five months old. Now, it's the loving elderly at the home she's been feeding, bathing, and getting warm hugs from whom Ate Procy calls her "parents."
