Whenever the topic of going to college is mentioned, it's automatic to talk about the universities we want to go to. We sometimes list down your top five universities that we've always dreamed of enrolling in. We often base our choices on popularity, either in academics, athletics, or other priorities.
But, sometimes, no matter how hard we try, life will get in the way and mess up our plans of attending the school we've always imagined attending. Whatever the reason is, what you feel will always be valid. It's alright to get upset or frustrated. There are moments when you'll think that you're not good enough, especially now that most schools have begun classes for another year. It's okay, we feel you. We're also here to tell you that you are going to be okay.
Work on accepting it. There are things in life that you don't have control over and some of them might've affected your chances of getting into your dream university. You are allowed to feel everything you want to feel, but try not to dwell on it too much. (Easier said than done, we know, but the operative word is "try.") Life does not end when you enter college, it actually starts there. Try to face the disappointment head on. Sometimes, things are just not meant to be.
Remember: it's not about the school you go to. Most people think that their chances of getting a decent job after college are affected the moment they don't get into their dream university, but know that achieving your dream will all depend on you and you alone. Getting into a prestigious university will not give you a sure pass during a job interview. You and your hard work will make it happen.
College will change the way you see things. This is the time you'll get the freedom you've been looking for your whole life. Upon entering your new school, you'll still feel a little tinge of hurt that you didn't get into your first choice; but, as days pass, spending all your time there and meeting new friends (a.k.a. your ride-or-dies,) you'll soon realize that you'll never find the same experiences and the same people if you're somewhere else. You'll then know that you wouldn't want to replace them with any other clique.
Take it as a detour and not a dead end. Just when you think you have it all figured out, trust life to throw a curveball at you because fate's just funny like that. You might have mapped out your life from start to finish, but know that you will take some hits and experience some bumps along the way as there is no one straight way to success. You'll experience some rerouting in your life, but know that you'll get there in time, no matter what. Just be patient.
Everything happens for a reason. This ought to be your life mantra because it will all make sense in the end. There will come a time when you'll realize that where you are is actually where you belong. You might not know it immediately, but give it some time and you'll recognize that this is His plan for you. Never doubt Him because no matter how long it may take, He will make your dreams come true—or even give you bigger ones! Tiwala lang!
Not getting into your dream university sucks, but what can you do? You have to play with the cards you are dealt with—just make sure to play it well and enjoy it while you do so!
