In Focus: Celebrities And Their Surprising College Degrees

There's no doubt that show business is one of those careers that come once in a lifetime; but, as they say, fame doesn't last forever—and some Filipino celebs know this all too well. That's why we admire these public figures-slash-role models who persevered to obtain their college degrees (some even aced in doing it) despite nurturing careers in the 'biz at an early age.

What's even more amazing is the fact that they majored in courses that will definitely surprise you as they seem to deviate from their onscreen personalities! Here, we've rounded up some of those Pinoy celebs!

Atom Araullo, Applied Physics

While ultimately known as the "journalism bae," TV presenter, and triathlete, Atom actually graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree in Applied Physics and not Communications or Journalism. Talk about well-rounded!

Giselle Sanchez, Broadcast Communication

Because of her naughty sense of humor and wacky personality, many people usually know Giselle as an actress would be surprised to discover that she was an excellent achiever at school and even graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines with a degree in Broadcast Communication!

Alex Gonzaga, Child Development and Education

With her acting and hosting career, Alex Gonzaga could've just easily dropped out of school and focused on her career, but she chose to secure her future with a degree in Child Development and Education that she acquired from University of Asia and the Pacific. We're pretty sure Alex would be an awesome pre-school teacher if ever she decides to pursue her path in early childhood education!

Chris Tiu, Management Engineering

From being a star college athlete to becoming a sought-after professional basketball player, it's easy to assume that Chris Tiu probably majored in a sports-related course back. The real deal, however, is that he's actually an all-around achiever having graduated with Latin honors from Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in Management Engineering. Salute!

Georgina Wilson, Economics (Honors Program)

Georgina has one of the most gorgeous faces in the industry, it's no wonder she's an 'it' girl. But Georgina proves that she isn't just a pretty face, though, as she studied Economics (Honors Program) at Ateneo de Manila University for two years then transferred to and graduated from the University of Sydney in Australia where she gained a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting with a double major in Finance.

Gretchen Ho, Management Engineering and Communication

Gretchen rose to fame as a UAAP volleyball star during her college days; and, now, aside from being an enterpreneur (Check out The Inspired Project!), she's also a well-known TV host who seeks to become a great example for the youth. Just when we think she couldn't be any more amazing, we remember that  she actually has two college degrees in Management Engineering and Communication from Ateneo de Manila University. Beauty with brains is definitely what Gretchen is!

Robi Domingo, Health Sciences

Before show business, the TV host originally intended to become a doctor. His parents are medical practioners, and it comes as no surprise why Robi dreamed of becoming one, too. Robi took up Health Sciences in Ateneo de Manila University and was on his way to med school after winning as the first-runner up in Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition Plus in 2008—but life had another plan for him. The influx of his hosting projects prompted him to focus on his career. As much as we're happy to see him enjoying the celebrity life, don't you think Robi would make such a fine doctor if he pursued his medical career?

Pia Wurtzbach, Culinary Arts

Aside from being a stylist, makeup artist, and beauty writer before her life as Miss Universe 2015, a lot of people also don't know that Pia is one heck of a chef and is a Culinary Arts graduate of the Center for Asian Culinary Studies. This just proves once again how much of a catch Pia really is—her beauty, heart, intelligence, and culinary skills make Marlon Stockinger one blessed man, don't you think?
