While sporadic, the MYX VJ Search still gets to be one much-followed campaign whenever it’s on. And last May 27 at 12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub in Makati, the Philippines’ number one channel launched four winners to be its next face. The lucky ones out of the 12 finalists this year? Model-blogger Kim Cruz, radio DJ-host Debbie Then, radio DJ JC Tevez, and sports enthusiast Turs Daza.
It’s not going to be long before they grace the small screen, joining MYX’s current roster of VJs namely Ai dela Cruz, Robi Domingo, Alex Diaz, Sunny Kim, Tippy Dos Santos, Donny Pangilinan, Sharlene San Pedro, and Jairus Aquino. Common knowledge: Like the channel’s resident VJs, many of the biggest and most successful celebs today like Heart Evangelista, Nikki Gil, and Luis Manzano trace their roots to MYX as its one-time VJs. Who knows, one of the following newbies might make it just as big? We. Can’t. Wait.
1. Kim Cruz. At 19, this Atenean is the youngest among the winners. Don't underestimate her youth, though, as she’s a multitasker juggling school, modeling, and blogging. "Just go for your dreams,” she says succinctly of her thriving career. Trivia: She’s dating fellow model, influencer, and rising star Gil Cuerva! #HotCouple alert!
2. Debbie Then. You’d think she’s already fulfilled as a Magic 89.9 jock and an online influencer (she’s got 51.1k followers and counting!). But Debbie had more dreams, and one of which has always been becoming a MYX VJ. In fact, she auditioned back in 2011 but did not make the cut. "Don’t stop if you know in your heart it’s for you,” she could only say about slaying in her return to the competition.
3. JC Tevez. "If you love what you do, you got to keep going"—this is JC’s motto when it comes to chasing your life goals. It’s exactly how he’s prospering further in his career, next to being Monster RX DJ and a TFC Connect host. Check this new MYX VJ out on Instagram, which he studs with shots of him trying out different dishes and looking silly in it!
4. Turs Daza. You could say it’s both genetics and talent, having Chef Sandy Daza for a dad and actor-musician Franco Daza for a brother. Turs likes to think he’s unique from the rest of his fam through his interest in sports—basketball, rugby, and soccer. That, and his budding hosting career, of course!
