In Focus: Magandang Buhay Honors Boy Abunda With ‘Amamshie’ Or ‘Amang Momshie’ Title

Headlining the hit morning show for a year now, Magandang Buhay’s Karla Estrada, Jolina Magdangal, and Melai Cantiveros has built themselves a strong fanbase of fellow momshies. One of which, while not necessarily a woman, is the King of Talk Boy Abunda. Tito Boy earned the “Amamshie” or Amang Momshie title after Magandang Buhay recently honored him with the Mapagmahal na Ama award.

The special title was for his being a good son to his Nanay Lesing and a good “father” to those he has mentored one way or another in local showbiz. How else has the living icon impacted on people close to him and beyond? The Magandang Buhay crew has these key points!

1. He’s a teacher. Those close to Tito Boy can attest to his selflessness in mentoring people to be the best version of themselves. Take publicists Hanzel Villafuerte and Betina Aspillaga, for example, who both look up to Tito Boy for his ways and words of wisdom. "I mentor people because I was mentored," Tito Boy could only say in humility.

2. He never doubted his identity. A proud LGBTQ rights advocate despite encountering bullies in the past, Tito Boy maintains a strong sense of self. "From the very beginning, wala akong labels (at) wala akong pagdududa kung sino ako," he said.

3. He persevered. From selling encyclopedias to waiting tables, Tito Boy was determined enough to go beyond despit the countless hurdles. “Handa ako makilagsapalaran, handa akong magutom, and I want to have the best life for my mother,” he said of his beginnings. “Ang mga panalo ay yun mga talo na hindi sumu-surrender.”

4. He stays humble no matter his level of success.Si Tito Boy, di naman nagbago. It’s just that yung status lang nya ay celebrity na (so) yung accessibility, hindi ganun kadali. Pero pag tumawag ka or nagme-message ka, nagre-return call sya sa 'kin—anytime of the day! Kung di man sya tatawag, magre-reply... Tao pa rin,” Hanzel attested of his mentor. “Alam nya roots nya, eh!” Bettina seconded. Tito Boy’s explanation over keeping his feet on the ground? “In this business, nothing lasts forever.”
