When you think of Bali, the first word that probably comes to your head is “beach!” But did you know that there is more to Bali than its beautiful beaches? Here are six bucket-list worthy experiences you never knew you can have in Bali. So what are you waiting for? Book that four-hour plane ride and take that trip now!
1. Swim with the Elephants
Have an elephantastic time with these gentle giants when you visit Bali. In Taro, Bali, there is a resort dedicated solely to these gentle giants. The Elephant Safari Park & Lodge provides guests with a variety of elephant encounters such as swimming with the elephants and even bathing them early in the morning! If you just can’t get enough of these adorable creatures, you can even book a room where you can see the elephants from your own private balcony!
2. Join a cooking class and learn traditional Balinese dishes
Balinese cuisine is getting increasingly popular so why not try learning a traditional dish or two and impress your family back home? Cooking classes in Bali usually start with a visit to the local fish and farm markets so you also get acquainted with the local produce, vegetables, fruits and spices grown in Bali.
3. Experience a day in the life of a Balinese Farmer
Ever wondered what life is like as a rice farmer? Well, now you can experience it first-hand. Ubud, in Bali, is famous for its rice terraces and there are countless of rice paddies all around the city. It’s not surprising then that there are even resorts with rice paddies right inside their property. The Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan offers an experience called “A Day in the Life of a Balinese Farmer” where you get to go on a trek in the jungle, visit local village houses and learn about rice planting from an actual Balinese farmer himself.
4. Dine with a view
There is no shortage of beautiful views in Bali, so take your pick. If you want to see the famous Tegalalang Rice Terrace as you have lunch, drop by the Rice Terrace Café. If your timing is right, you can even sit on your own private bale. If you would rather enjoy views of the jungle, dine at The Riverside Café where you can marvel at the Ayung River.
5. Splurge in your own private villa at a luxury resort
A private villa at the Amandari in Ubud, Bali.
Forget city hotels. When you’re in Bali, you need a villa. If you can, go all out and splurge at one of the luxury resorts and enjoy your own private pool, outdoor bale and complete privacy. Not only do you get peace and quiet but you also get to enjoy uninterrupted R&R that you so desperately need!
6. Walk through the monkey forest
For all of you brave souls, take a walk inside the monkey forest, where monkeys are simply left to roam around the area as they please. Just remember to leave your snacks and candies at home if you don’t want a group of monkeys rummaging through your pockets because they can always tell if you’re hiding something!
