PBB Season 1 contender Say Alonzo has come a long way from her reality TV years. She's now married and has an energetic little boy named Asher. As to how motherhood has kept her very busy these days, just check out how she chronicles it all on her Instagram!
Say, new at what she does, warmly recalls the tricky business of suddenly becoming a mom and being sometimes overwhelmed with chores. Yet, even with all the in-between business of housekeeping and groceries, she tries to keep it cool. Her penchant for dressing up even for a quick pasyal by the pool is just one of the way she's coping up—and looking fab at it!
What for you is a Mod Mom?
"For me, when you think of a mom you think like someone who's just cooking at home or always listens to the husband; whatever the husband says you have to do. As long as you make sure na tama yung nasa bahay nyo lahat like may food, malinis you can do everything pwede karin magka career tapos yung nga siguro sa pagaayos naman dati kasi nasa bahay ka lang parang nakapang bahay ka lang na di masyadong okay na di ka masyadong nagaayos. Now, I'm a super kikay mom so kahit nasa bahay nakayos talaga ako but not naman super makeup. I dont really wear makeup at home... I make sure na terno naman yung suot ko at tsaka medyo okay-okay lagay naman tayo ng konting sunblock dyan, hindi naman kailangan mukha tayong losyang or something like that."
What kind of stuff about your mom life do you usually share online?
"I shared OOTDs because a lot of people message me about OOTDs namin ni Asher. I would post before kunwari after breastfeeding I would post on how much milk na na breastfeed ko na nasa bags and then my son would be like in a baby carrier kaso lang I would get so many different comments about 'You shouldn't do this while breastfeeding,' 'Oh, you shouldn't get your hair done because you're still breastfeeding,' 'You're not supposed to use that brand of baby carrier because that's not approved.' Ganyan so ang daming comments so medyo mag-stop ako na mag-post. Now, I share OOTDs or sometimes our staycations cause it's also a part of my job as a lifestyle blogger."
What’s the most touching comment from strangers you’ve received on social media?
"'May anak ka na!' Ganyan, 'Grabe, parang di ka tumanda from PBB!' I love that 'cause that was almost 12 years ago sa PBB. 'Tapos sasabihin nila di ka mukang mommy, 'tapos 'Anong diet mo?' Hindi ako nag-di-diet... O, 'Hala, mukha kang high school!'
What do you think is the worst stereotype people have of moms?
"...Na bawal kang mag-ayos, bawal ka maging masyadong maganda, bawal kang maging sexy... kailangan pag mom medyo chubby ka or medyo hindi ka masyadong maporma, ganyan. Eh, di naman kailangan ganun, kung gusto mo maging ganun okay lang kung comfortable. If you're comfortable na hindi ka nag-work out, if that makes you happy, go ahead and just stay ganyan, okay lang. There are some people who want to look good for themselves, or for their husbands ganyan so kanya-kanya lang yan."
How do you use social media in your own advocacies?
"Actually, pinipili ko kung ano yung pino-promote ko tsaka pino-post ko. I dont really drink, if you look at my feed, I don't really post anything about smoking or drinking alcohol. Wine is good, yeah, it's alcohol but when you know you're breastfeeding, you can drink one glass. It's okay, it's fine, so I make sure na kung ano man yung i-post ko, I stand by it... My Facebook is super privat,e so it's just people I know. My Twitter naman I'm very opinionated about certain issues. Ganun parin kung anong sabihin ko mapapanindigan ko sya."
Who’s your role model and why?
"My mom, when I was born she was just starting her first job. So, she was like a career woman, sa bank kasi sya. Nag-start sya being a teller at the Bank of America then she became an assistant vice-president. That was her first and last job. Super role model ko sya when it comes to work ethics. My lola naman, she took care of me when I was super, super young. Sya naman yung sa bahay lang so siguro yung aspect ng pagiging maalaga sa bahay, marunong magluto, sa kanya ko nakuha. So, talagang my mom and lola is half and half, sa kanila ako natuto kung sino ako ngayon."
Best beauty tip?
"Never ever forget to remove your makeup before you sleep, right? 'Cause people sometimes when they're so tired or after gimik they're just like, 'Ugh!' Ganun, the next day you have pimples."
What’s your most recommended diet?
"I have an eating plan. It's @dietbuddy on Instagram, they've been sending me meals. Una, nag-order talaga ako sa kanila, eh, nag-work so ni-post ko natuwa sila. So, almost 2 years now super healthy portion food, but I also eat stuff that I love to eat. Hindi ako masyado sa sweets kasi. Hindi ako masyado ma-dessert, mahilig ako sa mga manggang hilaw, bagoong, santol, grapefruit with asin, dalandan with patis—that's me lang!"
What’s your favorite workout?
“I don’t work out. My favorite workout is running after my toddler, and that is a workout, yun na yun 'cause I’m hands on, eh. ‘Cause yoga is too hot. Someone invited me to yoga, sabi ko 'Nasan yung aircon? Ay, walang aircon, I’m leaving!'"
