Mod Moms: Kumander Nene Tamayo's Tried And Tested Tips For Raising A Happy Child

Every parent wants his or her children to grow up loving life. We want them to grow up to love and be loved, to follow their dreams, to find success. Mostly, though, we want them to be happy. But, we don’t always know how to encourage this. We sat down with Nene Tamayo, a mom who seems to have it all under control, to steal a few tips and tricks to get our own mommy game on point.

Find opportunities for teaching. Everyday experiences can be used as a toll to help you impart essential nuggets of wisdom. Sabi nya sa akin, 'Mommy, it's just 400?" So, I took it as an opportunity para i-educate sya. Sabi ko 400 pesos is not just 400 pesos. Remember Dad? He needs wake up at 5 o'clock in the morning to go to work. It will take one hour travel time to get there. He earns more than Php400 per day. It is an 8-hour job tapos less yung transportation costs tapos less yung meals."

Foster connections. Being exposed to a variety of people will help your child learn social skills that teach him to interact with others appropriately.

Assign chores. Having a clear set of responsibilities at an early age will instill discipline and humility.

Ensure a proper diet. Cultivating healthy eating habits during their childhood will help them avoid numerous health issues in their adult life.

Shower them with affection. Little acts of love can make a huge difference in the daily life of your child. Sabi ko sa anak ko, 'That's why I made it for you, so you will be happy, so you will be excited to go to school everyday.'"

Gather your mommy tribe. Validation from likeminded peers can give you additional insights and an extra boost of confidence.
