He has long stepped out of his parents' shadows—obviously. Left with only small traces of that adorable Aussie accent and no baby fat, Diego Loyzaga has since landed several television and movie projects and signed endorsement deals with several brands. He has gone on, too, to be the Manly Man ladies of all ages pine for.
As he celebrates his 22nd last May 22, we track how Cesar Montano and Teresa Loyzaga's unico hijo has metamorphosed into the hottie that he is now. We're #shookt at the evolution, TBH!
2011: Diego returned to the Philippines in 2011—and where to for celebrity kids born and raised elsewhere? The world of showbiz. Diego signed a three-year contract with ABS-CBN, landing a role as the love interest of Kathryn Bernardo in Mara Clara. He also starred in other teenybooper shows such as Growing Up. The formula behind his charm was apparent—heritage and his hot, hot accent from Down Under!
2012-2014: Weighing in his priorities became Diego's main challenge in his adolescent years. At around 17, he took a break from acting and went back to school in O.B. Montessori Center to finish his secondary studies. He then decided to make a showbiz comeback the following year through an episode of MMK where his improvement—both in speaking Filipino and in acting—gained more notice. His capability in portraying different roles also upped a notch, especially after portraying the antagonist in the series Mirabella.
2015: It was a year pregnant with opportunities for Diego, including his first venture in hosting and more TV appearances. He also decided to outgrow his teenybopper image by hitting the gym and bulking up. He'd come out of his shell as a bit player, and finally stepped up as one of the leading men in two major teleserye hits— Pangako sa 'Yo and Forevermore. He was definitely one to watch!
2016: As a result of his daily weight training, a more confident Diego emerged that year. The hunk actor was chosen to pose for a women’s magazine and was even featured as one of the country’s most eligible bachelors. Diego also became more showy on Instagram, where he'd flaunt his demigod physique. (We can't blame him, obvs! #flexzone)
2017: Now leading man material, Diego charms weekday afternoons as the swoon-worthy Potpot to Sofia Andres' Vida on Pusong Ligaw. (The 'gym buddies' do make a perfect pair for their complimenting features, don't you think so, too?) We could only bet on how Diego—who seems to have matured in every sense of the word—will prosper further as TV's next biggest star!
