Finding Melody in The Rain

Finding Melody in The Rain

The rainy season may be one reason to stay in but this show is definitely going to make you brave the downpour and more.

From an iconic 1952 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film comes its stage adaptation Singin’ in the Rain produced by Stage Entertainment and Chichester Festival Theatre. Now being staged in Manila at The Theatre, Solaire Resort and Casino with its season running from August 20 to September 13, this critically acclaimed production from London’s West End tells the story of silent film hotshots Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont.

With fame, well-publicised romance, and adulation, nothing could go wrong for Don and Lina. Until a new kind of film where the actors can talk, sing, and dance was discovered, and chorus-girl Kathy Selden came along.

Here are main highlights from the show in case you think you need more convincing to see it.

Mad Props

The costumes, the set, stage design, lights—these are amazingly beautiful eye candies. It was like getting lost in a starry dream where every change of outfit, play of colors, and choice of props jived perfectly well.

Tap Dance Toppings

Even for those unfamiliar to tap dancing, you would notice how remarkable they were as they incorporate it to almost every song, and they do so seamlessly.

Rainwater onstage… 12,000 L of it

Now it wouldn’t be a decent Singin’ in the Rain show without actual splash of water, would it? The show won’t just leave it to your imagination, it will also make you hear, see, and feel every drop! And mind you, the show’s technical directors says, “All of the water is UV-treated, sand-filtered, and chlorinated. Essentially, it’s the same machinery you would have in a swimming pool, except we’ve got it in the air.”

The musical play is presented in Manila by Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, Concertus Manila, Michael Casses Group, David Atkins Enterprises, and Pieter Toerien Porductions; and co-presented by VISA Entertainment. Directed by Jonathan Church, the production also features Broadway stars Duane Alexander (Don Lockwood), Bethany Dickson (Kathy Selden), Steven van Wyk (Cosmo Brown), and Taryn-Lee Hudson (Lina Lamont).
