Cheat Sheet: Ditching LaBoracay? Enjoy Labor Day Weekend 2017 In These Similarly Fun Affairs!

Booze-Party-Sleep-Repeat: So goes the partyphiles' usual formula flocking to Boracay to celebrate Labor Day. Dubbed as "LaBoracay" to combine "Labor Day" and "Boracay," it's an event of events, annually dotting the shores with almost 24/7 shindigs and sponsored gimmicks. Boracay’s white sands are thus waaay crowded with locals and foreigners out for the wildest weekend of their lives.

For some, however, LaBoracay can be a real fuss. They who will rather enjoy some quiet time at a less popular and populous beach, a real treat of nature without the crowds and pollution (all kinds you could think of). And then there are some who will pay for anything less mainstream but still something fun and surprise-filled like LaBoracay. This long weekend, are you in the hunt for a separate paradise that'll offer the same–or different–kind of escape? Check out these alternatives!

1. Celebrate Labor Day in Cebu!

Boracay isn't the only Labor Day "capital" in the Visayas—for the first time, Cebu will be having its own Labor Day celebration called WKND. Those flocking to Mactan Newtown Beach from April 29 to May 1 will get to enjoy beats from local DJs, along with various activities like jetski racing, beach soccer, and beach volleyball as stuff to try on the island. Ticket prices start at P500 for day 1 and day 2 passes, P880 for a 3-day pass, and P2000 for VIP.

2. Seize the long weekend in Zambales.

If EDM ain’t your thing, then maybe reggae should do the trick for you to enjoy the next four days. For this, Feelgoodtraveler’s Seas the Day got you covered! From April 30 to May 1 at Crystal Beach Resort, Zambales, the event will welcome you into a day of chills music courtesy of Lion and the Scout, Pawikan, and other bands and artists. It caps off with a raffle draw where prizes await visitors! Event fee is P1700, inclusive of entrance fee, jersey, consumable food and drinks, and raffle.

3. Have fun in San Juan…for a cause.

Imagine getting to a party-filled destination via car instead of a plane. It'll be like finding yourself on a road trip to San Juan up north! The municipality's LAbor UNION is a three-day event (April 28-30) featuring performances from Brisom, Barbie Almalbis, Hilera, and more. Tell you what: The event is for a good cause, benefiting the indigenous Kankanaey group and the conservation of Pawikan turtles. Three day pass is priced at P1,200.

4. Surf n' party in Baler.

Got surfing skills to match the pros? Baler, Aurora’s Nalu Music Fest is inviting surfers to man up in the longboard competition from April 28-30, with P100,000 worth of prizes at stake. Non-surfers are not left out, as performances from Parokya ni Edgar, Sandwich, Moonstar88, Franco, Gracenote, and more will keep everyone entertained on the latter dates.
