In Focus: How Filipina Beauty Impressed This Hollywood Makeup Guru

Every day, Karylle brightens up our noontime with her hosting, singing, and funny antics on It's Showtime—but recently she put on a different hat as a model-muse, and impressed the Hollywood-based makeup artist who flew to the country to work with her and a few other Filipina personalities for a special event.

M.A.C Global Director of Makeup Artistry Gregory Arlt, who counts Cher, Gwen Stefani, Victoria Beckham, Dita von Teese, and Sienna Miller among his loyal clients, wielded his makeup magic featuring the hottest Spring/Summer 2017 trends on Karylle, Miss International 2013 Megan Young, Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2009 Bianca Manalo, and society princess Stephanie Zubiri-Crespi for the brand's 2017 Pro Tour and Shadescents launch in Cebu, and he only has good things to say about the It's Showtime host.

"She's really easy to work with and fun to talk to; in terms of beauty, I love her chameleon-like quality and how she's interested to learn more about the makeup techniques. I enjoyed doing her makeup over and over again because she's not just pretty, she's also glowing from the inside because of her kind heart," shares Gregory in a chat with ABS-CBN Lifestyle.

Karylle, Megan Young, RB Chanco, Gregory Arlt, Bianca Manalo, Stephanie Zubiri-Crespi, and Tessa Prieto-Valdes at the launch of MAC's first line of fragrances featuring scents based on their iconic lipsticks like Ruby Woo, Lady Danger, and Candy Yum Yum, among others.

It was Gregory's second visit to the Philippines and his first time in Cebu, and says he loves being here because of how warm and hospitable people are. That, and how fun it is to primp and prettify Filipinas because of their ethereal beauty. He had an easy camaraderie not just with Karylle, but with the rest of the ladies, and the MAC Philippines makeup team whom he shared his tried and tested techniques with.

Try Karylle, Megan, Bianca, and Stephanie's looks on for size with these tips from Gregory:

1. Glow on. The barefaced look is still all the rage, but now, it's looking even more bare, with just some glow in strategic places like the cheekbones and the temples.

Glossy lids are the surprise element in this look. Put those shimmery shadows to rest for now, because some balmy shine on your lids is the way to go.

2. You know what really looks good on that bare face? Red lipstick. It's the ultimate statement-maker even if you're just in a basic tee.

The glossy theme continues on your pout. Put just a wee bit on the center or on the cupid's bow to give the illusion of plumper lips.

3. Forget bright pink blush. Highlighter as blush is key to nailing that unabashedly fresh summer look.

Brush ever so lightly on the apples of your cheeks to avoid looking oily.

4. Au naturel doesn't mean boring: Colored mascara is here to spice things up. We reco going for blue: It does a way better job than black or brown in giving your gaze that extra sparkle.

Make sure brows are well-groomed and not too thick because light and breezy is the name of the game.
