In Focus: 5 Epic Moments From UP Fair 2017

Another year, another UP Fair to go in the books. This year, as with every other year, the five-day affair began on February 14 and continued in the coming days to the delight of college students. Apart from the feel-good OPM hits, straight out of childhood carnival games and rides, and must-try street food, each night had its own recipe for epicness—not to mention, an important advocacy that gave more meaning to the revelry. Here, we highlight the important things you missed from this year's UP Fair!

Day 1: Mabaya’s 3D Treat

On Valentine’s Day, Mabaya served up the the perfect love potion through some of OPM's best. All we needed was 3D—[Johnoy] Danao, [Ebe] Dancel, and [Bullet] Dumas—who encouraged the celebration of love and unity in all communities!

Lucky UP Fair-goers caught the most random souvenirs thrown at them on the second day—from "last song" placards to… someone's shorts? Half-naked Banda ni Kleggy vocalist humorously tossed his shorts to the partly bewildered and partly amused crowd during their set. Wild!

Day 3: Elements Lit UP!

A sea of white lights gave a magical touch to Gloc-9's "Kaleidoscope" and Spongecola's "Jeepney'" during the band's performances. *chills*

Day 4: Cosmos' Cosmic Display

The visual accompaniment to Hale's "Pitong Araw" was a spectacular display of neon. The colorful show drew reverberating expressions of awe from the ecstatic crowd.

Day 5: Roots’ Mudfest

The rain transformed the Sunken Garden into a muddied park, but that didn't keep the crowd from making Roots the unstoppable force it was. We even spotted some of the audience wearing makeshift plastic bag boots. Kudos to the resourcefulness! Braving the mud is all good if for OPM's sake.

Netizens shared their #KwentongRoots:

Blows of the sax, screams to the mic, bangs on the drums, and chants from the youth blew out this long-standing tradition to epic proportions! It’ll just keep getting bigger with more homegrown talents next year.
