At last, all the candidates of the 65th Miss Universe are now in the Philippines, and pre-pageant activities have officially begun. Here are what the most beautiful women in the universe have been busy with so far:
Prior to the start of the pre-pageant activities, Miss New Zealand Tania Dawson took a detour to Pangasinan to visit her relatives. Yes, she has Filipino roots, and is proud of it! "It really brings out the Filipina in me and it's great to be learning all about the culture and really getting in touch with who I am by blood," she explained in an interview with ABS-CBN News.
Dawson does have a big and happy family here in the Philippines.
Miss Angola Luisa Baptista and Miss Georgia Nuka Karalashvili toured around Binondo to appreciate Filipino-Chinese culture, along with its rich food heritage.
Among their picks include Eng Bee Tin, best known for its hopia and tikoy.
Miss British Virgin Islands Erika Creque, Miss Bulgaria Violina Ancheva, Miss Venezuela Mariam Habach, and Miss Thailand Chalita Suansane enjoyed interacting with wild animals at Baluarte Zoo, Ilocos Sur.
This tiger cub appreciates the belly rubs it gets from Habach.
"Snake Lover but Parrot Phobia," Suansane remarked in her post.
Some candidates, meanwhile, were in Boracay for a photo shoot. In addition, they tried out a couple of activities, such as rowing...
Miss Ecuador Connie Jimenez and Miss Nicaragua Marina Jacoby are all smiles for their rowing experience.
No kidding: These girls are strong!
And learning how to weave with the locals.
One thing you have to admire about the contestants is their willingness to understand cultures that are different from their own.
As for those who are in Vigan? They got the chance to wear Filipino ternos and model them during the terno night.
Luke Mijares serenaded the girls during Terno Night.
Miss Philippines Maxine Medina was stunning in the intricately detailed white terno she wore for the show.
Miss Iceland Hildur Maria Leifsdottir and Miss Great Britain Jaime Lee Faulkner are more than happy to be roommates at Conrad Hotel. They are patriotic as well; check out their respective flags hung above their beds!
After all these activities, the contestants will see each other tonight at the Governor’s Ball, A.K.A the Miss Universe Welcome Dinner. Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach will be gracing the event, and Kapamilya singer Jona will be singing the Miss Universe theme.
