Jessica Sanchez: The Girl with Fulfilled Dreams

Jessica Sanchez: The Girl with Fulfilled Dreams

I’m sure a lot of us Filipinos remember the hype back in 2012 when Fil-Am singer Jessica Sanchez, whose mother hails from Samal, Bataan, made waves during Season 11 of American Idol, where her singing talent made her become a runner-up winner during that season, the highest attained by a Filipino ever in American Idol.

Yet, it took several singing performances for Jessica, who started singing at the age of 2, before the whole world took notice of this girl’s talent. After all, perseverance is always the key for any endeavor.

So, how did Jessica climb her way to being recognized globally? By trying always, and by further polishing her talent. Although she got noticed first with her rendition of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” at the TV show Showtime at the Apollo, it did not went through smoothly.

Before her rise to fame during season 11 of American Idol, she started off by auditioning at America’s Got Talent, where she auditioned twice and still did not made it, even if Simon Cowell said that Jessica is "one of the best I have ever heard.”

Despite failing to make it to America’s Got Talent, Jessica did not become discouraged. Instead, she went on to polish her talent and showcase it through people once again. Several iTunes-related project and a contribution for “We are the World Haiti”, Jessica is slowly getting noticed for her talent, now more polished than ever.

14 years after she learned how to sing, Jessica reached one of her biggest dreams: Making it to American Idol, and attaining runner-up status towards the end of the season. She may not be the season’s winner, which was taken by Phillip Phillips, but this was the jumping point Jessica was waiting for: to be a globally-recognized singer.

What’s even more admirable with Jessica amidst her hard-earned success? The fact that Jessica did not forget about her Filipino roots, by holding her first-ever concert, post-American Idol, at Smart Araneta Coliseum in 2013. And even with her newfound fame, she still shares her covers of known songs and snippets of her life (she is a gamer) on her YouTube channel.

For the second time, Jessica is coming back to the Philippines, this time in a more intimate fashion on August 9 at Chaos Nightclub, City of Dreams of Manila. What to expect with her second visit? Aside from hearing her now-polished talent and her covers, there is a good possibility of hearing new songs from her upcoming album.

After her American Idol stint, she made herself globally recognized. This time around, she wants to be close and personal to her fans.
