Cheat Sheet: 4 Nail Trends To Try This Season

By Michelle Katigbak-Alejandro

Forget your run-of-the-mill nail polish—flaunt your digits in some of the season’s hottest trends for super cool tips!

GO GREEN. A beautiful French tip manicure is a timeless classic—shake it up a bit by using a trendy color!

Step 1 Apply a base coat. Wait until completely dry.

Step 2 Next, use tape as a guide to create your French tips. Cover the larger portion of your nail, leaving the tip exposed. Paint this with green polish.

Step 3 Once nails are dry, remove tape and apply top coat.

CHALK TIP If you have a steady hand, you can always do this freehand.

Orly Lacquer in Hip and Outlandish (P385, available at Rustan's Beauty Source). Deborah Lippman Nail Polish in Laughin’ to the Bank (P875, available at Rustan's Beauty Source). OPI Nail Lacquer Jade is the New Black (P400 available at Rustan's Beauty Source).

BRIGHT STRIPES. Think lines in every imaginable color!

Step 1 Apply base coat. Wait until complete dry.

Step 2 Use tape to cover parts of the nail except where your lines will be. Using your first shade, paint in the lines carefully. Wait until the first shade is dry. Remove tape and reposition for the next nail color.

Step 3 Once done, apply a top coat.

CHALK TIP Make sure to apply tape firmly, so your polish doesn’t seep through. If you want a precise design, use a pointed wooden nail stick to apply color.

Zoya Nail Polish in Thandie (P400). Girl Stuff Nail Lacquer in Chill (P100, available at Watsons). LA Colors Color Craze Extreme Shine Gel Polish in Untamed (P149, available at Pure Beauty).

Transform your tips into mini disco balls with glittering shades.

Step 1 Use a base coat on your nail. Once dry, apply your favorite metallic color.

Step 2 When finished, use a textured polish like a metallic or a glitter polish and layer on top of your first coat. Create texture with the numbers of coats you apply.

Step 3 When nails are completely dry, cover with a top coat to seal polish.

Butter London Nail Lacquer in the Full Monty (P660). Revlon Parfumerie Scented Nail Enamel in Spun Sugar (P325, available at SM Beauty). BYS Glam Glitter Nail Enamel in Silver Moon (P229, available at SM Beauty).

FRENCH SPLIT. A new take on an old favorite as seen at New York Fashion Week

Step 1 Paint your nails with base coat. Allow to dry. Then, carefully apply tape over the nail, leaving the tip exposed. Lastly, place a thin line of tape in the middle.

Step 2 Using a classic shade, carefully paint over the scotch tape then let dry completely.

Step 3 Remove tape then cover with a top coat for gorgeous separated French tips.

Essie Nail Polish Not Just a Pretty Face (P400, available at Rustan's Beauty Source). Anny Nail Polish in Nude (P495, available at Zalora). Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Nail Polish in Birthday Suit (P495, available at Rustan's Beauty Source).
