In Focus: How The Magic Of Quinoa Is Equivalent To One Legit Chemical Peel

We already all know how quinoa can help us drastically lose weight—supermodel Kate Moss swears by this if she wants to slim down for a shoot fast (because it’s also one of the best things to eat if you want a flatter tummy). But you know what we just found out? Quinoa husk actually offers anti skin-aging benefits! Not really by eating it (though it does have high protein, essential amino acid, and vitamin content that nourishes our body from the inside), but by applying it on your face.

At the launch of the Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate, we learned that quinoa husks (yep, so nothing goes to waste—Mother Nature must be very happy!) have amazing skin exfoliation benefits, that can give chemical peels a run for their money. In in-vitro clinical trials conducted by the brand, this ingredient showed the ability “to limit Stratum Corneum cohesion and maintain Stratum Corneum lipid organization without irritation,” meaning it keeps the outermost layer of the epidermis (that’s the Stratum Corneum) from being dry and thick, rather refining it and improving skintone evenness for softer, more radiant skin.

“Despite the popularity of chemical peels, they present a number of barriers,” shares Dr. Adam Geyer, Kiehl’s Consulting Dermatologist. “While effective, the treatment can cause skin sensitivity including redness, irritation, PIH or POH and scarring. The expense of such treatments also presents a challenge for many patients.” So if your skin is of the sensitive type, the quinoa-based Kiehl’s micro-peel concentrate is a great and convenient alternative to getting smoother and brighter skin, stat—it might just be your new best friend.
