F--- you, Sucker!
Full of energy, and ready to “Break the Rules”.
This is how British singer-songwriter Charli XCX’s performance can be best described during her concert at SM Aura’s Samsung Hall, to a crowd of more than a thousand, on April 18.
XCX is best known for being part of Australian hip-hop artist Iggy Azalea’s hit song “Fancy” and for penning Swedish DJ duo Icona Pop’s hit single “I Love It”.
XCX opened her concert with the lines “F--- You, Sucker!” which are the lines of her song “Sucker”, also the name of her third album. XCX’s stage entrance and presence instantly made the fans energized.
Her all-female band, comprising of guitarists Vicky Warwick and Elizabeth Caney, and drummer Deborah Know-Hewson, wore sparkly silver dresses that definitely caught the attention of the audience.
XCX likewise caught the attention of the audience by donning a midriff-baring, zebra-print ensemble that showcased her well-toned abs.
XCX sang songs mostly from her third album such as “Doing It”, “Body of My Own”, “Gold Coins”, “Break the Rules”, “Need Ur Love”, and “Breaking Up”.
In addition to singing songs from her third album, XCX also sang her own version of Icona Pop’s “I Love It”, and a few songs from her sophomore album “True Romance” like “You [Ha Ha Ha]”, “Stay Away”, and “Black Roses”.
XCX closed her hour-long set with her hit song “Boom Clap”, known for being one of the songs used in the young adult movie adaptation “The Fault in Our Stars”.
After the concert, XCX held a DJ set at Valkyrie club, playing remixed versions of her songs.
