Now that the Miss Universe Organization has officially confirmed that Miss Universe 2016 will be happening here in the Philippines, and contracts have been signed by all parties concerned, plus all these were capped off with a press launch last week, we can finally keep calm and be unabashedly excited over this milestone event (first time for our country to host this pageant with our queen as the reigning Miss Universe). Here’s a quick rundown of how the pageant preps are going:
Date and time: January 30, 2016, 5AM (this is primetime in the US), available on (delayed) telecast in all networks around 8-9AM
Venue: SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Places the candidates will be visiting for the pre-pageant festivities: Vigan, Ilocos Sur; Cebu, Baguio City, and Davao, and more places to be confirmed soon.
And the freshest news we learned? Who the history-making makeup team is (and why this is a major feat for them and for our country)—let’s see if you can guess correctly, I’ve got some clues!
Remember Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach’s beauty tutorials where she’s raving about her favorite products. Well, most of them are items from this brand…
Her beauty mentor, Gery Penaso, who helped her nail her signature makeup look, is one of this brand’s top artists…

And then of course, there was her exquisite makeup-themed birthday cake…
Yes, you got it, it’s MAC Cosmetics that’s the official makeup sponsor of Miss Universe 2016! But while MAC has already partnered with Miss U a couple of years ago, what’s truly notable about this 2016 partnership is how, for the first time in the pageant’s history, an all-Filipino makeup team will be in charge of the beauty of all the contestants, even those of the host’s and the special guest performer’s! MAC is known for their talented roster of Filipino artists and affiliates and they will comprise this groundbreaking team, including of course, Pia’s personal makeup hero, Gery. They will work hand-in-hand with Miss Universe’s Head of Hair and Makeup.
“Just as the Miss Universe Organization believes in celebrating diversity, MAC believes in a person's beauty through individuality. Together both MAC and the Miss Universe Org look forward to celebrating the contestants’ beauty and determined spirits all towards the influence of future generations to come,” says MAC Cosmetics Philippines PR and AR Executive Vanessa Vergara.
“MAC is excited for this partnership as the pageant is a platform for Filipino artistry to truly shine. The pageant serves as a great opportunity for the Philippines to truly show that they are ready to handle such great undertakings on a world stage.”
MAC and Pia are undeniably a match made in heaven, what with their shared passion for raising awareness about HIV-AIDS. “This cause is the heart and soul of MAC Cosmetics and the dedication of Pia speaks bounds of her individuality as a role-model and one who can inspire all of us,” adds Vanessa.
All Miss Universe 2016 contestants can expect nothing less than the best from this iconic beauty brand, who is set on making sure the ladies feel the world-renowned hospitality of the Filipino. Not only do they get to be made up by some of the most stellar makeup artists in the Philippines, each one will also be getting her own MAC Miss Universe Kit, “a carefully crafted arrangement of products ready to help the contestants' beauty shine throughout the pageant.”
Get to know what will be in this exciting beauty kit, who among MAC Philippines’ artists will be the core makeup team, and the looks they’ll be creating for the contestants in the coming weeks only here on Lifestyle—plus a behind-the-scenes look at the preps come January.
“It is a great experience to work and collaborate with people from different countries who all share the same goal of inspiring others to believe in themselves and the beauty which they carry inside of them. The Philippine experience will surely be unlike any other as we will bring world-class artistry as the Miss Universe contestants travels from one island to the next,” notes Vanessa.
Such great news for Filipino talent—we definitely can’t wait to see them rock the Miss U beauty backstage!
