In Focus: These Performances Prove That Jodi Sta Maria Has A Good Shot At Winning An Emmy Award

I'm pretty sure you'll agree with me on this: Jodi Sta. Maria is one of the best actresses of this generation. If anything, her Best Actress nomination at the International Emmys simply cements what she has established in her more than-decade long career through her countless moments of brilliance. Jodi, who was teary-eyed upon hearing the news, says she never expected that she will be nominated, alongside award-winning Hollywood actress Judi Dench.

"It is something na beyond dun sa pinangarap mo, yun ibinigay sa 'yo," Jodi said in an interview with TV Patrol.

The role that got the Emmy committee to take notice of her? Her role as Amor Powers in the reboot of Pangako Sa ‘Yo. Jodi had several convincing scenes, but her "batas ng mga api" scene has to be one of her best performances in it:

As we hope that Jodi brings home the country's first Emmy award (Angel Locsin was nominated for her role in Lobo back in 2009 but did not win), let's look back at Jodi's memorable roles:

1. Be Careful with My Heart. Next to the reboot of Pangako Sa ‘Yo, Jodi is best remembered in this show as the lovable househelp-turned-stewardess Maya. Also very memorable in this show? Her chemistry with Richard Yap.

2. Tanging Yaman. Who can forget this intense confrontation scene between Marina (played by Jodi) and Fina (played by Erich)? This scene best showcase Jodi’s ability to tackle confrontation scenes with gusto.

3. 100 Days to Heaven. Before tackling the complex character of Amor Powers in Pangako Sa ‘Yo, Jodi also showcased her versatility in a similar role as Sophia Delgado / Tricia Manalastas.

4. Third World Happy. Jodi's second time to take part in a film competing at Cinema One Originals, she won best supporting actress here for her role as Aylnn, Wesley's (played by Sam Milby) ex-girlfriend.

5. Sisa. Another indie movie stint by Jodi, she won Best Actress at the Cinemanila International Film Festival for her portrayal of Sisa, a complex character from Dr. Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere.
