It's officials: After more than 22 years, the Philippines will be hosting the Miss Universe Pageant! This has been confirmed by Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo in a presscon on July 28.
“We have a president who comes from Mindanao, and our Miss Universe is from Mindanao, so I think this is the best time for us to do the Miss Universe here in the Philippines,” Teo said.
Next year’s Miss Universe pageant will be held on January 30, 2017, and will be funded by the private sector. Approximately $11 million will be needed for the pageant.
Maxine Medina is the Philippines' candidate for the next Miss Universe, and hopes to succeed Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach in the throne.
