Did you know that Miss Grand Philippines 2016 Nicole Cordoves started her journey as a beauty queen two years ago actually, when she won Miss Chinatown Philippines 2014?
Best remembered for her response to the question where would she want to switch bodies with former president Noynoy Aquino in the Q&A portion of Binibining Pilipinas 2016, the proud Filipino-Chinese has lots more to offer than just her good looks—Nicole’s work under the Department of Finance is proof that she has the burning desire to understand how our government works, and how she could help out in improving it, especially under the administration of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.
Nicole is one of the reasons why Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Philippines is known to produce candidates that go beyond beauty. After a brief absence last year, the Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Philippines competition is back, as it searches for Filipino-Chinese candidates who are not just pretty and handsome, but are also achievers in leadership, the arts, entrepreneurship, and academics.
Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Philippines also aims to celebrate unity in diversity, where they stay true to opulent traditions while adapting to the changing times. Filipinos and the Chinese may have cultural differences, but through their advocacy to promote oneness and a developed sense of belonging, the union of both cultures brings out the best from both sides.
The candidates for this year’s Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Philippines are as follows:
Male candidates: Wryan Chua, Agassi Ching, Sherwin Yao, Carl Nicholson Yao, Jan Louie Ngo, Don Kim, Homar Liu, Neil Guevarra, Lanz Tan, Nelson Lin, Richmond Balila, Benedict Siao, Marlon Gan, Brenson Go, and John Chantong
