Another accolade for his stellar acting prowess is a more than wonderful advanced birthday present for anybody, even for a box office king like John Lloyd Cruz, who got his first Gawad Urian Best Actor award for his riveting performance on Honor Thy Father a couple of days before his 33rd birthday.
In his acceptance speech during the 39th Gawad Urian, held at the Kia Theater on June 22, he emphasized the importance of giving his best as an actor, even if the role is challenging. “Naniniwala ako na there is honor in hard work, patience, perseverance, and timing.”
John Lloyd’s biggest learning after doing Honor Thy Father, for which he had to shave off all the hair on his head, crawl through tight spaces, and drop cuss words, all for his passion for acting? He learned to understand his desires as an actor, be enlightened by his own choices, and that “it’s ok to be different,” referring to how his role in the movie is different from the usual projects John Lloyd has done in previous years.
“I also came here tonight as an actor to give honor and celebrate my pure love for cinema,” John Lloyd said in his closing remarks.
