Here's Why Drinking Moderately Is Still The Way To Go

We've all been bombarded by so many tips, tricks, and precautionary measures when it comes to alcohol consumption, we really won't remember them all. Here's a list of the really essential things to know before you take a sip or swig, according to New York-trained endocrinologist Dr. Gerry Tan in his story for Food Magazine:

Studies have shown that “moderate” drinking can be beneficial while “heavy” drinking is damaging to our systems.

Whether you drink beer,  wine or whiskey doesn’t really matter. What is important is the amount of alcohol you ingest.

Generally, it is acceptable to define drinking in moderation as one drink per day that delivers 12 to 14 grams of alcohol into your system. This is equivalent to 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine or 1 1/2 ounces of a hard drink such as gin or whiskey.

If you do drink and are at risk of developing heart disease, keep your drinking to a moderate two drinks a day for men or one drink a day for women and take at least 600 micrograms of folate a day.
