What beauty legend Francois Nars once said, "Do not be afraid of makeup," has been celebrity makeup artist Albert Kurniawan's mantra since. With his heritage as an Indonesian and his background on Interior Design, his aesthetics lie on the extravagant—beauty and boldness combined together.
"I grew up in a place where a woman's everyday look is a smokey eye," he shared during our chat with him at the Shopee Beauty Affair (he personally gets some of his tools and beauty products there—download the app to know more and start building your kit!). But with the sweltering weather in the country and the demand of his clients for a light, demure makeup look, he didn't think twice of making a compromise—merging the Filipino and Indonesian way; thus the Albert Kurniawan DNA.
"I’m not afraid to experiment or do kakaibang makeup. I celebrate openmindedness," he says. It gives him joy when his clients request for a bolder face, like these looks he did on his muses, which, you too, can totally try (Albert gives tips!):

Are you up for the celebrity-look challenge? Read on—here are options good for a week of beauty tweaks:
Heart Evangelista. "Heart is blessed to have nice skin. So sanay siyang lumalabas ng bahay ng walang foundation or powder so minsan that's what we apply." Tip: Go out without base—so make sure you maintain clear skin always! Albert also revealed this one bold makeup move they did—a super dark lipstick with brown eyeliner used as lip liner. Talk about multi-tasking tools!

Megan Young. "She loves her eyes, it's so beautiful especially the lashes." Tip: Skip the eyeshadow and curl your lashes instead (eight pumps per lash is good to go) and lengthen with mascara for bright, lively peepers.
Janella Salvador. "I once put bright purple eyeshadow on her lids and pink eyeshadow near the lashes and blended them together." Tip: Try to experiment on color, but use those coordinating hues to avoid the sabog look.
Toni Gonzaga. "Toni trusts every makeup artist na gumagawa sa kanya. What's important to her is speed, especially since she's hosting." Tip: Work in the essentials—base, brows, lips, and powder to set. Then if you still have time, add blush or whichever makeup you want to put on.

Alex Gonzaga. "She loves pink lipstick because I think she's younger." Tip: Get playful! Take a break from deep colors and brighten up your face with light tints.
Kim Chiu. "Si Kim very regal 'yung beauty niya. Most of the time, I like to give the princess look." Tip: Achieve regal a la-Chinita Princess. Shimmer? Nice to try. Glitters? Why not? Full on pink or jewel tones on the face? Who's there to stop you?
Jodi Sta. Maria. "She has a very symmetric face. For her it's easy; I just always keep the look according to what the occasion is." Tip: If you have the perfect face like Jodi, take it from Albert: "Consider what you will have, what you will do and what clothes will you wear. Always."
