Imagine this: A few years ago, you've met someone so great you thought he's The One—the man of your dreams, your true prince charming. But after that encounter, he left you hanging and never got in touch with you again. It hurt. A lot. You've never stopped thinking about it. And now he became The One that Got Away.
Back to the present, you finally had the chance to move on and found another man. He’s not perfect, and he’s not the ideal guy you’ve wanted for so long, too. Yet you fell for him, and he’s head over heels in love with you. And the best part is, you’re happy.
But then one day, The One that Got Away returns and suddenly your emotions go haywire—feelings you thought have gone away since you got together with your current boyfriend. This confusion led to a meet up, and another, and then now you're confused out of your wits. You love your boyfriend, that is very clear to you, but you can’t help wonder about ‘what might be’ if you take a risk and ride into a thrilling flirtation with your past.
Much to the frustration of many, this really happens. It’s not only seen in TV shows, like in Jane the Virgin (minus the baby though). It’s a struggle to choose, whether between what is right and what is wrong, or what is better and what is worse. Especially when it comes to love.
But there are choices to be made. You can’t always have the best of both worlds, so consider these things when Judgment Day comes.
1. Choose the man who can be himself with you. No holds barred, honest to the bones-type of guy. Is he sincere not just with his feelings and intentions, but with everything he lays in front of you? With this guy, there are no secrets because he trusts you. And in every relationship, trust is the most important thing.
2. Choose the man who brings out the best in you. He won’t hinder you from growing; he won’t impose this and that, and he understands that there are necessary things in life you need (apart from him) that will help you become you.
3. Choose the man whom your heart beats for. At the end of the day, choose the man who makes you genuinely happy. Listen to your heart, and follow it. No matter if he’s the dream guy who is back or your steady beau that’s giving you the best feels in the world, just remember: you’ll know. If the guy gives you the unpretentious type of glee that doesn’t force a smile on your face but makes you glow, then you know who to choose.
