Gone too soon: These three words best sum up the untimely death of director Francis Xavier Pasion, who has gained not only international recognition for his independent movies Jay and Buwaya, but has also made an impact on television, having directed several of ABS-CBN’s teleseryes. We picked out memorable lines from the TV shows he helmed, which all impart valuable lessons no matter what stage we are in our lives:
"Maiksi lang ang buhay, kaya dapat natin alagaan kung ano ang mayroon tayo, at ipadama ang pagmamahal sa iba.” – Chen Sy, My Binondo Girl
Though Chen Sy (played by Richard Yap) was stern towards his daughter Jade Dimaguiba-Wu (played by Kim Chiu), he eventually recognized Jade as his child even if actually wanted a son over a daughter in keeping with Chinese tradition. Chen became more loving towards his daughter when he realized the importance of family and the fact that life is short, after losing his son to a car accident. This made him truly make the most out of life as a successful businessman and a loving father.
“Minsan lang po kasi binibigyan tayo ng pagsubok ng Panginoon. Mahal po tayo ng Panginoon. At saka ‘wag ninyo naman po sana tignanang problema bilang parusa.” – Nathaniel, Nathaniel
This teleserye emphasized the importance of having faith in God and finding the good in everyone. As part of Nathaniel’s (played by Marco Masa) mission to restore man's faith in God, he goes as far as trying to persuade his father Paul (played by Gerald Anderson) and grandmother AVL (played by Connie Reyes) to stop spreading evil and instead promote good in every one of them. Albeit it was extremely challenging, Nathaniel's optimism and faith in God and the good enabled him to succeed.
“If only they knew just how much I love you, they'd understand why I have to fight for this.” – Clark, On the Wings of Love
A lot of people became fans of On the Wings of Love because of its overflowing love lessons in every episode. While Leah Olivar (played by Nadine Lustre) and Clark Medina (played by James Reid) had to endure countless trials, they did their best to understand one another no matter what what or who tried to tear them apart, be it Leah's jealous ex-boyfriend (who happens to be Clark's cousin) Jigs Magtoto (played by Albie Casiño) or her demanding and strict boss Simon Evangelista (played by Paulo Avelino). And that, everyone, is true love.
