Style Spotlight: No Crown, No Problem—Be As Chic As Queen P With These Expert Tips

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach’s homecoming brought so much joy to all of our hearts—and left lessons on style that will surely help each and every Filipina elevate her look. Confidence and grace are essential, and will help you radiate a natural glow even if you’ve already toured the entire metro and had back-to-back-to-back engagements; Pia wields the power of these two traits so well, as evidence by how impeccable she looked from morning to evening despite all the courtesy calls, motorcades, and special appearances.

But of course we’ve also got to be equipped with fashion know-how so we can come up with the right outfits and looks! Intangible style tips aside, here are two things you must keep in mind every time you plan your outfits or have pieces made by your fave designer, straight from Pia’s go-to fashion designers, Albert Andrada and Bessie Besana themselves:

1. Emphasize your beauty and individuality. “Like I have designed for Pia Wurtzbach for the Miss Universe pageant, the front is so simple so as not to let the audience be distracted from her beautiful face. I always design gowns which will enhance the beauty of the individual, that's why I always study the personality of the person that I'm dressing up,” shares Andrada. With many different factors like colors, fabrics, and accessories that you have to take into consideration when picking out your outfits, it’s really crucial to focus on your unique beauty and take things from there. Albert adds, “I always want my clients to wear my dresses, not my dresses wearing them!”

Andrada dressed Pia for the Miss Universe 2015 pageant, the first media press conference in Araneta Center during her homecoming, and her homecoming parade around Metro Manila.

2. Keep it classy, simple, and sleek. Besana, who made Pia’s gown for her Araneta Center parade and TV guestings and was also the beauty queen’s styling coach for the Miss Universe pageant, makes the latter stand out through the use of understated yet sophisticated silhouettes and designs—nothing flashy, everything elegant and on point. “When there is a need to upscale for an event, accentuate your garment with accessories and jewelry. This way, special clothing are flexible for every wear,” he notes.

Besana created a blush gown for Pia's homecoming parade in Araneta Center, a flowy jumpsuit for her media interviews, and a vobrant body-hugging dress for her ABS-CBN guestings.
