ICYMI: Is It Time for A Rivermaya Reunion Gig? One of Its Original Members Think So

No one saw this unexpected moment in Philippine music history coming.

While some Filipino rock bands have chosen to go on a hiatus to pursue their individual passions, some have decided to come together for a jamming session, to the delight of their fans.

This was the case with the original members of Rivermaya, when Mark Escueta, Perf de Castro, Rico Blanco, and Nathan Azarcon gathered for a gig last January 9 at 19 East in Muntinlupa City. Bamboo was also invited, but he was in the US for a series of concerts.

The idea of coming back together on stage was initiated by Perf, who has been busy with classical music since leaving Rivermaya. “Well now that he’s gone through his whole classical phase, he has a couple of new songs to perform and they all rock,” writes music photographer Nina Sandejas on her blog.

In case you missed this momentous reunion of the '90s Pinoy rock band, here are a few videos of them performing their earlier hits at 19 East:

Perf also announced that he will be having a series of gigs, starting January 13 at '70s Bistro in Quezon City. Asked why he decided to get the band together for a one night only performance, Perf said "I just felt like it was time."

Who knows, a reunion concert with the original (and new) members of Rivermaya might just happen soon enough.
