“Hindi naman ako seloso… kelan ka uuwi?,” was Atom Araullo's (now famous) hirit to Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, when he and the rest of the Umagang Kay Ganda crew interviewed her live via videoconference on the show last January 7.
The handsome bachelor reporter and the confidently beautiful queen's apparent chemistry sent the online world on a crazy spiral of kilig, giving birth to the ship PiAtom. But before we get too far ahead and imagine the beautiful babies they can make, first things first: We wonder—how would these two gorgeous creatures spend their first date? Based on their preferences and personalities, we came up with a list of food adventures we think they'd enjoy experiencing together if they do decide to take that next step:
Let’s go Japanese. In an interview, Atom said that one of his recurring favorite dishes is salmon sashimi and surprisingly, we found out that Pia also likes Japanese food as evidenced by her post about her visit to the restaurant Ogetsu Hime. Spots they can try: Diamond Hotel's Yurakaen, Nobu Manila, Your Local, and Tanabe Japanese Restaurant.
Dating Tip: Find your common ground when it comes to food. That’s the easiest way to figure out where to go on a date. Both of you will surely enjoy bonding over your favorites.
Healthy is Wealthy. Pia is a culinary graduate and food lover, but maintains her sexy body by having a healthy lifestyle. Guess what? Atom actually likes a woman who has a healthy appetite. Match made in heaven, right??? There are a lot of establishments nowadays that have healthy menus coupled with a relaxed ambience (both Atom and Pia are laidback people as well) like Detoxify Bar, The Wholesome Table, SaladStop!, and Green Pastures.
Dating tip: You and your guy can boost the fun factor of your healthy date by incorporating a fitness activity like running or yoga.
Cheat Day! Pia has to maintain a beauty queen physique, but this woman also relishes her cheat days. She and Atom can enjoy one of her favorite snacks, pizza, in places such as Gino’s Brick Oven Pizza, Casa Italia, or Tosca at Dusit Thani Manila.
Dating Tip: If you don’t know your date’s food preference, why not let him/her have her pick of where you'll go? It's a great way for you to get to know him/her better, and he/she will also feel extra comfortable (and special) because you paid attention to his/her likes.
Sweet Ecstasy. Both seem to have a sweet tooth: Pia loves baking and enjoys eating sweets (ice cream and cakes), while Atom once noted that he tries to regulate his sugar intake but can’t. We think they'll enjoy cake and pastry haunts Paul Boulangerie, Bizu Patisserie, or Wild Flour Café + Bakery, and ice cream places The Iscreamist, Southern Dairy Homemade Gelato + Kitchen, and Carousel Creamery.
Dating tip: Make sure you and your date get different cake or ice cream flavors so you can take turns getting from each other's plates—kilig!
Pinoy na Pinoy. These two have a penchant for the simple things in life, so we can definitely imagine them taking a walk by Manila Bay or other rural spots, mingling with the locals, while eating banana cue (Atom’s favorite) or the specialty of the town they’ll visit. If they can’t escape the city, these places offer legit Filipino cuisine: Sentro 1771, Café Juanita, Mesa Filipino Moderne, and Crisostomo.
Dating Tip: If you are on a tight budget, hanging out in a park while eating street food like banana cue, barbecue, or fishballs, and buko juice, or taking a walk somewhere like Manila Bay or window shopping at the mall, are fun options that won't break the bank.
During Pia's homecoming on January 23, will Atom try to take things to the next level? That we’ll all have to wait and see. But for any date, keep in mind, where you go and what you eat are not of primary importance: The main goal is to enjoy each other’s company.
