Ryan Ryan Musikahan was OPM's big night! It was the biggest showcase for anything OPM and it heralded Pinoy singing talent like no other, with the Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, no less, accompanying and arranging on the baby grand.
Televiewers of ABS-CBN's second coming in the late 80s saw this show as a great highlight of the network, as they look forward every late night on Thursday to watch singers, from newbies to theater regulars to lounge artists and pop kings and queens, perform under the guidance and arrangement of the Maestro.
One important and anticipated special on the Ryan Ryan Musikahan season each year was the Yuletide episode on the Christmas week that almost always drew the biggest OPM stars medleying or essaying the most touching, inspiring, and heartwarming Christmas classics--from traditional tunes to the latest compositions.
Decades after this sensational TV musical show inspired and touched Pinoys everywhere with the magic of Filipino music under the Maestro, the profound joy of Christmas in the Pinoy setting comes to life with both the restaging of the show and the Yuletide special, Ryan Ryan style.
Ryan Ryan Musikahan Christmas from the Heart will feature also the best performers, similar to the ABS-CBN late night weekly special we all so remember and cherish. Piolo Pascual, Nikki Gil, Klarisse, and the masterful Filipino singer songwriter Ogie Alcasid taking the stage plus the Ryan Cayabyab Singers and UST Singers.
The Maestro rehearshing with Piolo Pascual and the string quartet for Ryan Ryan Musikahan: Christmas from the Heart.
But what does this Christmas presentation offer, aside from the timeless carols we all grew up with? The intimacy, the Maestro says.
"Yun idea ng [Ryan Ryan Musikahan]: parang Christmas siya kasi parang nagkakantahan kayo sa bahay ng Christmas carols,” he said emphasizing that the original show stood out in its time because of this characteristic, which is sadly absent nowadays. “We don’t have any intimate musicals; what we have are musical variety shows.”
For this Ryan, Ryan Musikahan special at the Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel in Resorts World Manila on November 6, this intimacy with the audience is what will make it memorable and uplifting.
“You are there, you are part of the audience because the sound that is produced is not blasting; it’s like all of them [performers and audience] are in a sala.”
As such, Pinoys will not only enjoy the Christmas tunes as rendered masterfully by Mr. C and his distinguished guests, it will also hit home in the truest sense, with them engaging the audience intimately just like a family Christmas party.
This will surely present the essence of Christmas in every Filipino's hearts.
