Filipinos who have closely followed the life of Harry Potter--from his tragic childhood to his heroic exploits at Hogwarts, especially at the end of Book 7, in which he emphatically passes on his legacy to his children entering the same school of witchcraft and wizardry he attended, they have certainly enough reason to cheer.
Yes, the story of the continuing saga has been revealed and JK Rowling is very much excited to finally bring it to life, not as a series of films like the first seven books she wrote but as a theater presentation where everything will be revealed.
And the story is just as intriguing, mysterious and awesome as the book's predecessors.
It has been almost 19 years since the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where Voldemort dies and the last Harry Potter book ending with Harry waving at two of his children, James Sirius and Albus Severus, at Platform 9 ¾, as they head to Hogwarts.
Harry has thought that all is good after Voldemort’s death, but not all is well as his son Albus Severus (who Harry named after Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape) realizes that he is cursed due to his family’s legacy, which is the topic of J.K. Rowling’s upcoming eighth Harry Potter story entitled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Nearly a decade has passed since Deathly Hallows, and this new story involving Harry’s son bearing the pains of their family’s legacy gives another reason for fans to look forward to this new chapter in Harry Potter’s life. Rowling revealed the synopsis of Cursed Child through website Pottermore.
This time around, the eighth Harry Potter story focuses on the events post-Deathly Hallows, wherein an adult Harry now works at Ministry of Magic, with three of his children now studying at Hogwarts. In spite of Voldemort’s death, it seems that Albus Severus has to deal with his family’s legacy, something that he never wanted in the first place.
With Harry having a hard time dealing with his past, both father and son will realize the reality that darkness can appear in unexpected places. As for this eighth story, fans will expect a new set of adventures for both Harry and Albus Severus as they explore more about their family’s past and legacy, and the darkness that haunts them.
For Cursed Child, Rowling collaborated with writer Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany in crafting an epic two-part story that will be staged at London’s West End, which is a first for the Harry Potter series. Happening on summer 2016, over 30 actors will take part in this new chapter of Harry’s life, and the beginning of the adventures for Albus Severus.
And, even if most of the Pinoy Potterheads may not witness the unfolding of Harry's next adventures as a father and the commencement of the troublesome yet magical journey of his son, the mere fact that the story lives makes them greatly excited. Another series of film adaptations in the drawing board? That seems to be yet another natural eventuality, especially if the West End production reaches heights they never thought possible.
