What makes you proud to be Filipino? In this day and age when there are so many reasons to be proud of being Filipino—from the country’s economy continually improving to our talented fellow countrymen who are making their mark in the international scene, we all should be holding our heads up high and showing everyone why else it’s truly #MoreFunInThePhilippines. What better way to thank our forefathers who fought for our freedom than to help this country maximize its potential, right? Let’s look back at four remarkable Pinoy fashion moments that have made us (and hopefully our ancestors) smile:
Francis Libiran’s creations on America’s Next Top Model Cycle 18 The celebrity fashion designer, whose clientele includes Anne Curtis, Kim Chiu, and Kathryn Bernardo, among others, was featured on the top-rating reality show hosted by Tyra Banks in 2012, where he was tasked to create Hello Kitty-inspired pieces for one of the main photo shoot challenges. Tyra is also a fan of Francis, and has worn his creations to several high profile occasions such as the Blossom Ball in New York City.
Danica Magpantay’s win in the 2011 Ford Supermodel of the World Competition Filipinos are not only making it big on the design front, but in the modeling scene as well. Danica Magpantay, who won the 2011 Ford Supermodel of the World title, is now an in-demand international model currently based in New York. Besides Danica, there are also a number of other Filipina models who are doing really well internationally such as Charo Ronquillo, Charlene Almarvez, and Manuela Basilio. Trivia: She’s also the daughter of celebrity makeup artist, Lala Flores, a favorite of Angel Locsin and Sarah Geronimo.
Megan Young’s coronation as Miss World 2013 Our beauty pageant-crazy nation went even crazier when, for the first time in history, a Filipina bagged the Miss World crown. Actress and former Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition housemate Megan Young bested 126 other contestants in the pageant held in Bali, Indonesia. It was a double celebration for the Philippines that night, as Megan looked ravishing in a gown made by a fellow Filipino, top designer Francis Libiran (see header photo).
Kim Chiu and Sarah Geronimo as one of the princesses in Disney’s 12 Days of Princess campaign 12 Southeast Asian celebrities were tapped by entertainment giant Disney to pose as famous fairytale princesses late last year, with each one being revealed well into the start of 2015. Our very own Kapamilya stars Kim Chiu and Sarah Geronimo were part of this elite selection: Kim was transformed into Mulan, while Sarah became Rapunzel—both transformations were just on point, and we are very proud of their accolades.
