Because the best moments are the unexpected ones.
A good majority of those who attended the 38th Gawad Urian intended to have a selfie with the Superstar, Nora Aunor, who was awarded the Natatanging Gawad Urian Award for her accomplishments. Little did some of the attendees, particularly the nominees, knew that they were also going home with an award.
One case in point is actress Eula Valdes, who never won an Urian previously. Yes, she had been nominated for Best Actress in “Dagitab,” but was just calm throughout the event and wished to only score selfies with the acting legends, especially the Superstar, given how illustrious the list was for those aspiring for the award this year.
And the time came for the announcement of the winner for Best Actress.
Nora herself was a nominee for “Dementia,” together with another legend Nova Villa for “First Ko Si Third,” and other notables like Angelica Panganiban for “That Thing Called Tadhana,” Angeli Bayani for“Bwaya,” Ai Ai delas Alas for “Ronda,” Eugene Domingo for “Barber’s Tales” and Hazel Orencio for “Mula Sa Kung Ano Noon.”
But when she heard her name as one that stood out in that celebrated roll of nominees and bestowed the top acting award in the Gawad Urian, she was simply shocked and thrilled.
Being very emotional during her acceptance speech, Eula said that she expected to only take selfies with Nora and fellow actors and actresses present, not knowing that she would join the constellation of respected Urian Best Actress winners that night.
Like Eula, other first-time nominees had their amazing moments winning their first Urian trophies.
Gladys felt overwhelmed and in shock after knowing that she is the recipient of the Best Supporting Actress award for “Magkakabaung”, such that she hugged her close friends before heading to the stage to receive her award.
In fact, she was overwhelmed because she did not expect a first time nominee like her to win the award. Gladys also added that the award is a welcome addition to her acting career.
Martin del Rosario
Upon hearing that he is the recipient of the Best Supporting Actor for “Dagitab”, Martin’s closest friends stood up and applauded him, while flashing a smile on his face. Cameras immediately were pointed at him as the young actor claims another recognition to his acting career.
Just like, Gladys, Martin did not expect that a first time nominee like him would garner the award, as he addressed in his acceptance speech.
Of the four rookie Gawad Urian awardees, Allen was the calmest upon receiving his award for Best Actor for “Magkakabaung”. Allen has received multiple acting awards in the past, but this was his first-ever Gawad Urian award.
In a composed demeanor, he simply thanked those who helped him in garnering the award.
While Nova and Gladys were presenting the next set of nominees and awardees, the two actresses shared a light moment. Nova poked fun at Gladys, as Nova pretended that she was not aware of Gladys winning Best Supporting Actress during the event. Everyone at Studio 10 laughed at the comedic moment.
