The Six Fix: Why BLACKPINK Is The New K-Pop Girl Group That You Should Stan

Make way for YG Entertainment’s new girl group, BLACKPINK, which debuted last year and released their first two singles, “Boombayah” and “Whistle”, which seamlessly topped various charts and went viral on our social media feeds. And because of this, the group bagged the Best New Artist of the Year award from big Korean award shows last year.

But, really, what makes this girl group so lovable that in just a year, they already garnered a ton of fans around the world? Listed down are the reasons why most of their solid fans a.k.a. BLINKs, have been supporting them even before they officially debuted!

 1. Individual 4D personalities.

Like their labelmates, Sandara Park (known as 2NE1’s Dara) and Choi Seunghyun (known as BIGBANG’s TOP), these four girls are not only visually good-looking, but also have a unique yet funny way of entertaining their fans (especially Jisoo and Lisa!) If you’re curious, please do watch their Weekly Idol episode that will surely make you laugh your hearts out!

 2. Top-charting rookie girl group

After a year since their debut, BLACKPINK scored multiple endorsements and magazine features. Although their full album hasn’t been released yet, their songs landed at the number one spot on various charts and music shows during its release. One of these is their summer single “As If It’s Your Last” which was released last June and became the second most viewed video on YouTube in the first 24 hours by a Korean act—second to their labelmate, PSY's "Gentleman."

3. The group doesn’t have a leader

It was revealed during their Choi Hwa Jung's Power FM guesting that the group decided not to have an appointed leader. Jisoo explained that she may act like a leader sometimes because she’s the oldest, but they have been friends even before their debut. That’s why they think it’s better to not have a leader which made BLACKPINK the first YG group to do this.

4.  Swag image a.k.a. YG style.

It has been a stereotype that most K-pop girl groups follow a cutesy image. Well, BLACKPINK is one of the exceptional groups who is breaking away from this. Although they are visually cute, the group continues to maintain their swag with their music and style.

Fun fact: The "swag image" has become popularly known in K-pop because of YG Entertainment groups like 2NE1 and BIGBANG, that’s why most K-pop fans dub this as YG style!

5. Three out of four members can speak English fluently.

Although English is the second language in most Asian countries, South Korea is an exception. Most Korean idols can understand the language, but can’t speak fluently. That’s why when a member can speak English, he or she is the one who promotes the group internationally. Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa grew up abroad that’s why they’re fluent in English which also helped the group become widely known.

6. The girls are instrumentally talented.

The members can sing, dance, and host. In addition, the members can also play instruments; Jisoo can play the drums and the piano, Jennie can play the piano and the flute, Rosé can play the piano and the guitar, while Lisa can play the ukulele. This further makes them a true A+ group!

YG Entertainment's former one and only girl group, 2NE1, may have bid their goodbye last January. But K-Pop's baddest all-female group members were kind enough to leave us a new group that will tug our hearts the same way they did.
