The Six Fix: Under The Weather? Reach For These Kitchen Ingredients For A Blast Of Wellness!

Before the proliferation of mass produced drugs, the world’s original pharmacy existed in the great outdoors. Mother Nature provided the best remedies for everything: from infections and arthritis to depression and diabetes. While there are certainly times when nothing will cure your ailment other than an over-the-counter medication or a prescription, there is no harm in trying out alternative cures to common conditions. A quick raid of your pantry can often unearth overlooked antidotes to minor aches and pains.

Turmeric. This golden spice, a staple of Indian cuisine, has powerful anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties which help bring down bloating caused by gut inflammation. Goodbye, puson! Did we mention that it also promotes circulation to get your digestion back on track? Sprinkle some over your scrambled eggs, or mix it up in a tea sweetened by honey. Trust us, you'll be baring that midriff in no time.

Cranberry. Anyone who's been afflicted with a nasty bug called UTI knows the pure misery that follows it. The burning, stinging, and the constant need to pee is just about as annoying as it gets. Before you reach for those antibiotics, chug down several daily servings of this crimson berry. Not only is it low in calories, it is packed with Vitamin C and antioxidants that can help ward off the infection and boost your immunity!

Ginger. The warm heat from this ubiquituous kitchen spice works brilliantly as a sore throat remedy, subduing the swollen tissues and glands of the throat through its anti-inflammatory magic. The root crop also fights off infections with its anti-bacterial and anti-fingal properties. It is best taken as a tea: grate fresh ginger into a mug of piping hot water and sip your way to wellness!

Apple Cider Vinegar. Last night's Crispy Pata binge has got you into a woozy of a heart burn? Fret not. Some of the main causes of acid reflux and heartburn are caused by an imbalanced stomach pH and lack of enzymes and probiotics. Simply add a tablespoon of this amber liquid to a cup of water, and drink it five minutes before meals to relieve the discomfort. We wish it were this easy to cure heartbreak though.

Raw honey. This sweetener has more than meets the eye. Raw honey not only tastes delicious, it also boasts of a powerhouse of antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. Slather some on your burns, insect bites, cuts, and wounds and watch those booboos heal like a charm. Work a bit of it into your face and kiss those breakouts goodbye. Now, that's real sweet.

Olive oil. Your inky black OOTD can be ruined by those pesky white flakes from your dry scalp. Dust off those worries with a liberal topical helping of coconut oil massaged into affected areas. The antibacterial and antifungal properties of this slick liquid has also been known to alleviate inflamed skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema. Hello, silky skin that just won't quit!
